Well, tomorrow at 1pm PST I'm taking my driver's test. I never thought I'd be driving period, I'm kinda mixed between excited and extremely nervous. It just figures too that after months without a single rain fall, tomorrow is forcasted for rain. :crying: I have the worst luck!

So, wish me luck and pray I don't crash. If I don't post back about my result by Friday, I died in a fiery crash on the roads of Portland, OR. :P

Good luck! I'm sure you'll do fine. After my driver's test when I was 16, I was like "Are you serious? That's it?!?"

I just took my US driving test. I was nervous too since I haven't driven in awhile .... it was nothing, actually I thought it was kinda of a joke but it was no joke at all, she made me drive around the block and that was it. :-p I wanted something a little more challenging lol, uh oh well, I got it though, i guess thats all that matters. Don't worry, just stay calm and be cautious you should be fine!! :) Good Luck to ya

You'll do fine! Just remember the safety features of the car - do up your seat belt, remember to use your turn signals properly ,check both side and rearview mirrors regularly and come to a complete stop at all stop signs and road 'stop' markers. Before my driving test the instructor had me test all of the signals and lights so make sure you know where those are on the car you are driving for the test. Good luck - I am sure you won't need it:-).

I think it is too easy to get a license here in the states. I got mine at 16 and I didn't know too much about anything. My hubby got his like 2 weeks after getting here and he said he messed up a couple times but the guy gave it to him anyway. You will do great. Good Luck!

Well, you answered my question being a Canadian and moving to Oregon - you still need to take a driving test. I too am moving to Oregon soon and was wondering if I could just trade in my Saskatchewan liceanse - guess not. Did you drive in Oregon this whole time on your Canadian liceanse? Would they let me take the driving test as soon as I get there on my K1 visa? Or do I need to wait for my green card?

Don't worry - you'll be fine! Just don't drive too fast -- you can lose control if the road

is slippery from rain. (I recently crashed my car because I was stupid enough to race

on a slippery road! :P )

I think this is Kearinne first time getting a Driver's license here or in Canada...

I just found this on the Oregon DMV site...

Requirements vary depending on which country you come from. If from:

* Canada

* Germany (Note: Acceptable only for licenses issued before January 1, 1999. After January 1, 1999, European Union (EU) licenses issued to residents of Germany only (must show German address) are accepted.)

* A US Territory, such as:

o American Samoa

o Puerto Rico

o Guam

o US Virgin Islands

o Northern Mariana Islands

your license is treated the same as one from another US state. If you are not from one of the above listed locations, you must also pass the drive test.

This is what you need to do to get a driver's license in Oregon...

* Be a resident of or domiciled in Oregon and provide proof;

* Be at least 18 years of age (instructions for those under 18);

* Complete a Driver License and Identification Card Application;

* Provide your Social Security Number (SSN);

* Provide proof of identity and residence address (required acceptable documents for proof must be presented each time you apply.)

* Pass the driver license (Non-Commercial Class C) knowledge test at a regular or full service DMV office (you may practice with an online practice test). All the information necessary to pass the knowledge test is included in the Oregon Driver Manual (English, Spanish, or Korean);

* Make an appointment, take and pass the behind-the-wheel drive test conducted by DMV in a Non-Commercial Class C vehicle (be sure to bring proof of insurance to your drive test appointment); NOTE: If you have a valid driver license issued by a U.S. State, you may not be required to take the drive test;

* Not have a medical condition that makes you unable to drive safely as defined in OAR 735-062-0000 (2)(a)(B)©;

* Pass a vision screening as defined in OAR 735-062-0050;

* Surrender any valid driver license or permit issued by another jurisdiction (such as another state);

* Pay appropriate testing and issuance fees (see note on payment of test fees); and

* Not have suspended or revoked driving privileges in Oregon or any other state.
