I was married to an Arab in 2005. He was in the country on a visa. We met and fell in love and married a month or so later. We went through the immigration process and it was pretty painless other than endless paper and money. I relocated for work in 2009 and he didn't come with me and this took a definite toll on our marriage. We divorced in September of 2010. In March of this year I met a man online from the same country. We are madly in love and I have visited him already. I am 16 years older than he. How can I overcome the red flags that I know are coming? How can I prove the validity of our relationship? I have chat logs, and Skype logs and pictures of us together and me with his family. I want to file the K-1 next month but dread it because I am afraid they will deny it based on my past experience. I have a good job, I own my home and I pay my taxes. I don't have a criminal record nor does he. Any advice that anyone could give me would be helpful.

You posted this in the Philippines regional forum. Is that what you intended? Or did you mean the Middle East, North Africa regional forum?

Giving the country where your fiance currently resides can get you more specific feedback.

Sarah, the best advice I can give is to make sure your current fiance is fully aware of all the (tiniest) details surrounding your first marriage and divorce. Having evidence that your prior relationship was also bonafide might help. When addressing your age difference- contact with, and approval from his family, as well as addressing the issues of future children in your relationship are the best ways to go about dissuading a CO's possible suspicions that may arise due to the age difference.

Overall, have an airtight case. Make sure your fiance is well versed about your life. Make as many trips to Jordan as possible, and document them with lots of photos, especially of you and him interacting with his family together. Do a little research on VJ about other common red flags that come up at MENA consulates, and if you have any of those issues, find a plausible way to counteract them.

If you take the time to do some research and prepare your fiance for all possible lines of questioning at the consulate, you should be just fine. Good luck.

Sarah
