Hello everyone,I am American and my husband is Brazilian. I'm so happy to announce that my husbands visa was approved on May 25th!!! Now we are planning on buying tickets to go to NY. I was wondering Do I have to buy a one way ticket?? One way is double the amount of a round trip ticket, but I don't want to have problems when we get to NY. I don't want immigration to find it strange that we have a round trip even though we wouldn't use it...Any help on this topic is appreciated, thank you. :)

You can buy a round-trip ticket, just call the airline after arrival and cancel the return portion of the ticket. It's not likely anyone will ask, but if they do, just say the reason.

Congrats on the approval!

I too also had the same question. I was thinking if you purchased the round trip ticket, why not go? Just make the return trip WAY after. Like a year after. And if you change the date, then just pay the hundred two two hundred extra to change the ticket price. And buy in advance the return trip.

I am doing this with my wife from India, as I know that she needs to go back as all of her cousins are getting married, and family reunions. So in the long run buying a round trip is useful and saves $$.

Congrats. And why not go to Brazil for the Olympics? eh? sounds pretty cool to go there and support USA.......

Why buy a round-trip ticket if only needed is a one-way one?

Hubby bought my one-way ticket (JAL-AA / first class) and did not have any problem at all.

Go the most cost effective route. But if you buy round trip ticket make sure you cancel it and retain proof of if . I have heard of people having Issues when adjusting status. Because the airlines had there name listed as leaving the country before they could.leagaly
