I know the USCIS is interested in that one little detail when reviewing our applications  I know they have their reasons for checking. I know some people believe in love at first sight and others like the wait it out a little. I'm actually the former of the two. Hopefully USCIS doesn't see that as their own red flag *crossing fingers* Anywho, where do guys fall under? Whether you're already married or just received your NOA1, what was your dating time before the marriage proposal?

Just a friendly chat thread :D

Timeline

I met my fiancé online (On WoW) in late 2008 sometime, I can't really remember. Might've been September, and we were really close friends before deciding to make things 'official' and started dating July 29, 2009 - We had feelings for each other way before that, but he'd been in a long distance thing before (She lived in another state, so it wasn't super long distance. It didn't work out 'cos she cheated on him), and I hadn't, so we talked it over for a while. I flew out there to visit him in November 2010 (3rd-17th) and he proposed to me on the 14th and all his family came over :) We didn't take any photos of the dinner though (Had it at his grandparents) 'cos I'd got a nasty cold (Flying from Australian Summer to the middle of Ohio where it was cooold!) and passed it onto my fiancé, so we had dinner and said our goodbyes and went to bed! Lol.

gosh I wrote an essay... Lol :jest:

I think something like falling in love with another person can happen in many different ways and surprise you, so I think USCIS are just checking it seems legitimate, regardless of how long you've been together.

In my own case, when I first met my fiancé (Chris) 2 1/2 years ago, I was in a long-term relationship with another guy who I had a house with. We were travelling around America at the time, and I met Chris at the wedding of my friend and his brother, in Idaho. Upon meeting Chris, I realised I would much rather be with someone like him than the person I was currently with, and so broke up with my then boyfriend a few days later. Because of the distance and the relatively brief meeting, I didn't ever entertain the idea of Chris and I being together (I didn't even know he liked me at the time) but I knew it wasn't fair on the the other guy if I wanted a different life than what we had.

Fast forward a year and a bit, and Chris begins emailing me out of the blue, saying he's coming to visit England and Europe. We meet up on the day he lands, and by the end of the week I've decided to go on a long weekend to Spain with him and our mutual friends. The rest is history: I've been over to see him 3 times (once for a 3-month trip) and he's been back to England again. He proposed just over 6 months after he first came to England.

Sorry this is quite a long story, I just wanted to show that chance encounters can change your life an awful lot, and it's no less legitimate than if you've known someone your whole life. I'm a pretty rational, sensible person, and yet my relationship with Chris is so 'right' and instinctual, it's different to any other relationship I've had. It's like I've been waiting for him all my life!

There are so many factors to consider about falling in love, each case is different for sure. I met my fiancee online in March 2010, then spent a week with her in September in person. That was all that was required in our case, we were each looking and kind of knew what we were looking for and found that in each other. We have NOA # 2 now and hope she can be here in July..
