ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — As Pakistan’s powerful military leaders seek to overcome extraordinary public criticism following the killing of Osama bin Laden this month in a Pakistani garrison city, they are also facing seething anger in barracks across the country.

...

To head off the discontent, Pakistani army chief Gen. Ashfaq Kayani made town-hall-style appearances last week at five garrisons across the country, where he faced barbed questions from officers about the raid, according to some who attended. After a 45-minute address to the 5th Corps in the southern port city of Karachi, Kayani took queries for three hours. Attendees said questioners focused on the perceived affront in Abbottabad — and why Pakistan, in the words of one officer, did not “retaliate.”

...

No officers interviewed said the bin Laden killing had convinced them that Pakistan needs to work harder to find terrorists or shift the focus of its defense strategy from archenemy India. Instead, some expressed hope that their superiors would stand up to the United States.

...

Pakistan should “immediately suspend cooperation with the U.S.,” said one officer in Pakistan’s north, who, like others interviewed, spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not allowed to speak publicly. “In the lower ranks, anti-Americanism is at its highest.”

All pak has done ever since its creation is think negative and destroying and terrorizing other folks, they never taken a constructive approach.

Various army ranks are wondering why they were not allowed to retaliate against US, how come they are not thinking damm…. if freaking US forces can find him why could we not find him.

They don’t want to look at their failure and ask why they could not do it.

Their failure was not that they could not find him.

Their failure was that they could not keep him hidden.

And that they were sleeping when a foreign military was invading their country and didn't show up until the game was over.

You sure about that?

Isn't it much more likely that they knew and did nothing because the guys in charge know they can't butt heads with the U.S.?

And if they had, they would be in continuous-shill (it really doesn't end) of why the US was able to easily clean their clocks--blaming all-and-sundry but never their own stupidity and brutality. Edited by Saddle Bronc

and they drove out those soldiers long ago who DID favour constructive approaches (such as Ziaur Rehman, Khaled Musharraf, M.A.G. Usman, ...--all of whom were Mukti Bahini leaders of 1971, and formed nucleus for Bangla Army).

Easy to answer--the only reason they couldn't "find" him is because they would have had to admit they'd been abetting his hiding for the past decade.

They leaders know they cannot afford to lose the financial aid they have been getting from US or IMF.

They have been bankrupt for years and even the aid they get they spend most of it in buying more weapons which is not going to feed the ppl of the country.

they already did that--revealed in 2004--and even if the amount had gone into their budget (it went straight into several numbered accounts, some of them A.Q. Khan's) the effect would have been like a $339 million "savings" from our current federal deficit.
