NOA2 approval!

My husband and I found out yesterday that our I130 had been approved!! I find myself a little concerned though because I am set to move in 2 weeks and have not yet found secured an apartment. Does anyone here have any recommendations for me? I'm just nervous they will start sending stuff I won't receive (I am the beneficiary).

Second, maybe you want to look into get a P.O. Box and filling out the change of address forms to that P.O. box. I am not sure if this is possible, you might have to do some searching, but at least this is an option if it is possible until you secure a residence.

We have a similar, but not the same situation. My wife is Mexican and primarily lives in Costa Rica, but also maintains a legal residence in Mexico City. I asked NVC several months ago what to do on the I-130 where they ask which consulate do we want to use, and could we change it to CDJ if she was going to be in Mexico as the interview scheduling approached. They said the obvious--use Costa Rica since that is where she most of the time, but yes, they could schedule CDJ if we notified them of the change once they had our documents. It turns out that she will in fact be in Costa Rica at the time of the interview in a couple of months, so we will not have "tested" the system so to speak, but at least they were encouraging when I spoke to them that we could schedule whichever was more convenient.

well, here's the dealio.

yer in Canada, and must file the DS-260.

there's other stuff you must file

and most of it is electronic

and

it doesn't matter what yer previously recorded address was,

as

you're not getting anything in via postal mail, as yer pegged to interview in Montreal (which goes all electronic these days for NVC Intake)

so, as far as 'the beneficiary's address' is concerned, nope, not an issue, you not 'need' to receive anything from NVC via postal, IF and ONLY IF the two of you are handling things electronic, both in combo with the new DS-260 process and NVC Electronic Processing.

I don't know too much about how the electronic processing works, but even for normal processing, everything is done via email. NVC did send one piece of snail mail to my husband at his old apartment (his friend was still living there, so he rescued it for us), but it was nothing that wasn't also sent by email (just the first letter from NVC saying that our case is there and is eligible for further processing).

I would still recommend that you give them your new address though. Here's what you can do though to make sure they have the correct physical address on file:

First, when you get your NVC case number (through the AVR), call back and speak to an operator to make sure they have the correct email addresses for you and your petitioner. (You'll want to do this regardless.)

Then, email nvcinquiry@state.gov, put your name and NVC case number in the subject line, and then in the body of the email, say that you're writing to change your address and include all relevant info. I did this and received a reply from NVC about three days later. Here's the email I sent (taking out my own details, obviously) and what I got back for your reference:

Here's the reply I received:

We updated the mailing/email address for this case. Please continue to

notify the NVC of any change of mailing/email address, or change in

personal situation that may affect the principal applicant's entitlement

to a visa.

If a period of one year passes from the last date of contact with the

NVC (by email, telephone or mail), all submitted fees and documents will

expire. In that case, your fees will need to be repaid and documents

will need to be resubmitted in order to continue the immigration

Surest and quickest way is once you secure an address to the new apartment and your NVC case number is to call the NVC and they will change/update it for you, at the same time have your mail forwarded to your new address. Not too complicated as NVC was very kind on our change of address. Best of luck!!
