Help! My fiance and I are only on step one of our K-1 fiance visa. He lives in the United Kingdom and I live in the U.S. He would like to travel here to see me but he is very nervous that Customs will turn him away due to the fact that we are applying and they may think we intend to marry on this visit. Which we DO NOT! We plan to do everything the proper way as he has children and so do I so we need everything done accordingly. Have any of you out there traveled back and forth during your wait and what was the outcome?

I look forward to any input you may have.

A lot of beneficiaries have traveled to the US while waiting for their petition to be approved by USCIS. If your fiance wants to make sure he's covered, he can bring evidence of ties to the UK. A letter from his employer stating when he's expected to return to work, on-going rent, on-going utility bills, and other documentation like that. Also have him bring a copy of the NOA1 as it is evidence that you two are trying to do it the right way and that you are aware of the process.

I've gone to the US from Canada to visit my fiance during this process and was not questioned any more than usual (ie. "Where are you going?", "How long?", "To see whom?"). Keep in mind that my trips to see my fiance were all short (under 2 weeks) and I've traveled back and forth to see him several times prior to filing. However, I'm sure your fiance visiting you in the US will be fine, just make sure he gets some evidence that he will return to the UK in case they ask for it. When I visited my fiance, I took the following as evidence of ties to Canada:

- A copy of my NOA1.

- A letter from my employer stating when I was leaving and when I was coming back.

It's worked out fine for me.

Hi, your fiancee does not need to worry about it. I visited my husband january last and I had no problems at the POE. The officer asked lots of questions but I had showed many evidences that I did not want to imigrate so he did let me in. Just bring some evidences that he will return to his country and he will be fine!

Hi there,

I too am in the U.S.A. and my Fiance is in the UK. Since we filed for our K1 he has been back twice without incident. As soon as you mention a significant other the Border Patrol raises an eyebrow, but every time they did he would say "We are going about it the proper way and have filed for a Fiance Visa I am just here to see her while we wait." He also shows them his return flight itinerary as proof that he will be departing the country again. They always say have fun and good luck, congrats, etc! No need to fear as long as you are up front and honest and can prove they will be returning they have no reason to deny entry :)

Agreed.

I visited my fiance (now husband) for 89 days on the VWP while we waited for our K1. He arrived in the US, sent the packet and I joined him 5 days later.

I took

return flight info,

Letter from employer saying 'see you in 3 months',

A copy of the I-129F packet.

They did not ask to see any of it.

Just be honest and up front as the above poster said. It should be fine :)

Good luck!!

I cannot edit my post. I forgot to mention that at my K1 interview in London I was asked if I had visited my fiance since filing for the K1. When I gave them the information he confirmed this with pictures that were attached to my file of me arriving in Boston on the VWP a few months previous. Big brother is watching :)

My case was approved quickly without any delays or problems.

Good luck :)

Read my post about my experience, I have visited twice this year, no problems. Be truthful, but you don't need to give unnecessary information away, e.g. when asked the purpose of your trip answer you are on holiday, which is true, you dont need to tell them that you are visiting your fiance unless asked! :)

I'm flying out to JFK this Friday to visit my fiance for 11 days. If asked purpose of visit I'm still not sure whether to say"vacation" or "to visit my fiance"...is it really OK to say vacation? I don't want them to think I was lying if they ask further and find out I am staying with my fiance...I am so nervous once again, it'll be my first visit since we filed in January.

November, I recently went to visit my fiancèe for the easter holidays and we applied for the K1 at the end of March. With me I simply had my ESTA,the return ticket and a copy of NOA1..the officer only asked me the purpouse of my visit to which I replied "to spend the easter holidays with my fiancèe and her family" and when I was coming back..that's it,nothing else,no other questions. If his visit's gonna be a short one like mine was (9 days) or a litte more you have nothing to worry about trust me :) In case he'll run into a grumpy officer (I doubt..) he can always show him/her the copy of NOA1 and a letter of employment like suggested already by another member. Everything will be fine :)

I strongly suggest you to be honest and tell that you're going to visit your fiancèe. I've always said the truth in 7 times, and in 7 times the most I was asked (2 times) if I had a return ticket with me and my ESTA. To hide the fact that you have a relationship with a US citizen by simply saying "you're on holiday" is not an advisable and smart move...good luck

I am flying out in 2 weeks and this is what I have so far to show that I have to return:

My return ticket

Copy of NOA2 and letter from congressman stating that NVC have received our paperwork.

Letter from employer stating that I am required to return to work after 31st May.

Letter from parents stating that I am living with them and they expect me to return to contribute towards bills as my father is unwell and recovering from an operation and currently off sick from work, therefore, I need to be back until my father returns to work.

Letter from a clinic stating that I am currently undergoing medical treatment which I have to return for in June as I have paid for it privately.

Confirmation of driving test in June.

Travel insurance for 2 weeks only.

If there's anything I can add to the above, please let me know. Also, I have been denied a b2 visa last year. This is when I was still a Kenyan citizen and I had not naturalised as a british citizen. How much of a problem would this cause?

I flew in through JFK more than a month ago to visit my fiance in NJ. I did indeed encounter a grumpy immigration officer but he asked the standard questions and did not request to see proof of anything. He let me in and granted me a 6 month stay. I'm still here, having a wonderful time with my fiance and his family. Here's what he asked: Purpose of visit? Vacation. Who are you visiting and staying with? My fiance. What is your fiance's status here? USC. What does he do? What do you do for a living? Have you been in the US before? When, for how long and why?

That's it..he then took my fingerprints and photo and let me through. In my honest opinion...grumpy officers might be an advantage coz they're not interested in more trouble. The guy i met was clearly having a bad day and it seemed like he didn't want to question me any longer than he had to. He had one of the fastest moving lines too.

Good luck. I don't think you'll have any trouble. Just be brief and only answer what you're asked. Be honest. Just in case...have your NOA1 and return ticket and employment letter or other home ties proof with you. But it's rare that you'd need them. Doesn't hurt to be careful though.

You'll be fine. I'm in the US with my husband now for 15 days and we already have our noa2. I had no problems at poe. Infact, I've never had any problem and i've visited when he's been my boyfriend, fiance and husband. This is my second time this year visiting. I've never been asked for anything other than my noa1 and return ticket. :D
