Bringing Birth Control Pills

Hello! I know that this is nonsense. My K1 visa has just been approved this April. And I have flew here to the USA already. Everything about my flight was kinda rush rush. And I have forgotten lots of stuff including my medical documents from St. Lukes. One of the personal stuff that i have forgotten was my birth control pills.

Now my question really is how strict it is in the immigration in terms of BRINGING birth control pills? Because i to want to ask some of my friends to bring it for me but at the same time I want my friends to be worry free about it.

I need help...your insights will be very very helpful. Thank you in advance!!!

This is an interesting topic. When I last went to the US I knew I was supposed to stay there for three months or more so I brough with me 5 packages (for 5 months) even though mine weren't really pills but patches. When they went through my luggage they didn't find them so of course they didn't say anything about it, but it would be nice to know more about the topic. B-)

Yeah, we have marked up pills that probably cost 20 times what they pay down there if they have no medical insurance. And I'm assuming that most people coming over the k1 visa do not have proper medical insurance while waiting to get married.

I brought 12 packs of bcp without a prescription and I just got through.. It's an over-the-counter drug so it's okay, plus its for personal use. :)

To try the pill you mean? I would recommend seeing a doctor first before starting. There are so many kinds of birth control pills with different levels of hormones and you need to get the one that suits you. I went to a doc first and made sure I was ok to take it :)

My Journey:

We met through a study-abroad program in Shanghai, China in August of 2009

We got engaged March of 2010

I received my K1 VISA in 6 months (June-December 2010)

We were married 04/02/2011
I received my conditional 2-year greencard (AOS) in 2.5 months with no interview (April-June 2011)

Our son was born 02/03/2013

I received my masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology 04/17/2013

I received my 10-year greencard (ROC) in 3 months with no interview (March-June 2013)

My husband returned from deployment 06/20/2013

My naturalization journey took 4 months (April-August 2014)

I became a US citizen on 08/01/2014

Received passport in 3 weeks (regular processing)

Thank you, VJ! smile.png

Bringing the pills over yourself is no problem. When I was travelling back and forth between Canada & the US often, I always had multiple prescriptions for BC, allergies, etc. It was never a problem.

The only problem I could think of regarding your plan is that if security or Immigration decides to search your friend's bag and finds pills with a different name on them than the passenger, it may be a problem. It was my understanding that all prescription medication that goes through the airport must be in the original container with the patient's name and info on it. Just a thought.

Maybe someone else has experience with bringing over someone else's prescriptions?

There is no prescription requirement in the Philippines for Birth Control pills... at least not the ones my fiancée uses. We bought 5 packs at Mercury before coming here and there was no issue getting them through to the USA. So if your friend is asked, the pills are over-the-counter with no name associated so there should be no problem. She can always claim they are hers and for personal use. If she was bringing 100's of packages then there would be a problem since they would think she might be trying to resell them which would be illegal.

Birth control pills are sold OTC in my country. We do have to leave our personal information (name, address) with the pharmacy - just like if one tried to buy the old formula Sudafed in the US. If the OP gets her pills OTC too, there shouldn't be a prescription note.

I brought 12 packs over and when the customs officer was looking through my stuff, I told him what the pills were for and he didn't even seem to care.

Maybe someone said this already - why don't you just go to your new Doctor here in the US - you should have no trouble getting the pill. Planned Parenthood can help as well...think it would be cheaper through them - not sure how it works.

I personally filled all my prescriptions before I came so I had a few months supply of everything from the Pill, to puffers to allergy meds.

Any type of medications not just birth control. In Peru you don't need a perscription for anything. For example, you can get antibotics by just walking into a pharmacy and asking for them.
