Hi all,

So we've been tracking our petition ever since we got the NOA2. It's been 6 weeks and nvc have no idea where it is. We got the congress office involved and they are chasing uscis and nvc for information. At first we decided to wait it out but we've now decided to meet up..only this time, I am off to US.

I have my ESTA thing sorted. Tickets are booked and we're really just hoping for the best. It's only a 2 weeks visit but any time with him would be good. Here's the issue. I need advice on pre entry clearance. I know I have to prove my ties to UK but I also know my situation isn't the best. I start work next week so that's the employment thing sorted but it's only a temp job so I don't know if it proves any kind of tie. Also, I have no mortgages or bills..all I have is a student loan that needs to be paid when I start earning above a certain threshold. Obviously, I have the k1 in process and I would have to return for the medical and interview so I know I have no intentions of staying there and committing immigration fraud but I have to convince them of this. My question is, given all the above, is there anything else I can tell the POE officer to show that I will return?

Do you have a contract for a lease on a flat or apartment? What about a letter from the employer about the job. Wracking my brain to think of other things you could have to show the ties, but it's before my morning coffee still. :P

lol..i can assure you its not the coffee as i am doing the same..it's a risk i am willing to take i guess. Also, I forgot to ask, if i do get denied at POE, will that affect the k1?

And no, I live with my parents. If I got an apartment of my own, it would be 'culturally' frowned upon..ugh..

Okay so bold and brave me just called cbp in ireland. My POE is there and the cbp officer I spoke to was quite nice. He said all I need to bring with me is proof of job and a return ticket. I asked if I need to bring a copy of my NOA1 and NOA2 and he said its not necessary, but I will take it anyway.

You're going through Dublin? How did you menage the layover? I'm thinking about doing the same, going through pre-clearance (and I'm in the same situation as far as proofs of ties to my country...d'uh >_<)

Good job in calling them! :thumbs:

That's fortunate to have your POE in Ireland, rather than 3,000 miles from home with the possibility of being denied entry. Of course, I hope that's not the case for you :)

"Proof of a job" typically means full-time employment, or at least constant employment. Does your employment letter say that your position is temporary?

Well I called shannon since no one was answering the phone at dublin :P just book with aer lingus. Morning flights usually do pre entry stuff. Personally, i chose dublin because i have been there before so its familiar territory. Since I will be alone, atleast I wont be lost.

Yeah, i'd rather just have it over and done with in dublin to be honest because it will be too emotionally traumatising if i did it 3000 miles away. God willing I will get through. It's only a 2 weeks visit but these types of things just send people into panic mode.

Well, it won't mention the type of contract, just that I have a job with them.

Here's a couple more things you could take that, although some may be minor, could help:

Flight itinerary showing return flight;

Travel insurance showing dates that match your flights;

A signed letter from your parents showing rent payment and that they expect you back to continue paying;

Not sure if this applies to you, but any return coach/train ticket home for when you fly back to the UK;

Oh yeah, and don't pack too much! And make sure the things you do pack backup your claim that it is a short break, ie don't take 10 pairs of shoes! Or anything like a CV that would make it look like you are going to get work. Or anything that might look like you are not going to return, you know, belongings you might not ordinarily take on holiday. I'm sure you are already thinking all these things but thought I'd mention it :)

Ohh, i'll ask my parents about the travel insurance..i think it's a family thing so i'll get calling. Also, i'll ask my parents to write a letter and i'll book my train ticket as I am travelling to and from heathrow. Thanks for the packing tips :)

When we were engaged going through K1 and now that we are married my husband always goes through Dublin. He stays with his parents right now as we are in this crazy period. He's never been asked for anything other than to show a return ticket. He's never had travel insurance, never been asked to show how much money he has, never been asked for an extra information at all. He even has the old K1 in his passport and even that only got a "don't stay" talk. that was it. Obviously there's always the possiblility of denial but they aren't there to make life miserable. I wouldn't get too worked up over it.

I say better to be safe than sorry. It doesn't require much effort to get these documents together and if you end up being one of the unlucky ones who they do look more closely at, you'll be glad you did. I agree, it is probably unlikely but it does happen.

This post suggests doing everything I did! When travelling on VWP while K1 was pending. Good advice!

At my POE (Boston), none of it was looked at and they were very friendly. I hope everything goes smoothly for you too!!
