Anybody here worked at macy's before? Are the hours really unpredictable, depending on what they give you?? Like you worked this week and next week you don't have any work schedule at all?

I KNOW this is not yahoo answers ...this is finding Work in America Board. There is nothing wrong with me asking about that with people who have worked there when they first just ARRIVED in the USA looking for jobs.

Hours of work will vary by store location and department. i.e. New York city, you may get 40 hours every week, Raleigh, North Carolina, you may get 15 hrs a week or every two weeks.

What did HR tell you?

Thank you for your helpful answer. I had a few hours work and then none for this week. This is my first job since I arrived here about 4 months ago, I just want to know what's it like for others. I will have to ask HR but at least I have some info on it.

Generally if you are a part time employee they can work you whatever hours they want. Only if you are a full time employee will they work you 40 hours each week. Also they can schedule you to start your work day whenever they want you to be there. That is they way it is in retail.

I guess that is what it is for me, thanks.

Am not sure about retail. I worked as full time caregiver and started as part time. Now i work at a hosptal also started as part time before. Yes they will give u different hours if u are part time but never experienced that u work this week and off next week?

I believe it all depends in ur performance. Good worker means more hours. I used to work part time when i started but i worked 35- 50 hrs a week even as part time. Never experienced not having a schedule at all except for my days off.

This is not the Philippines. Working at a store as a promo girl is not considered cool here, and is what we call a dead end job

Go work somewhere where you can have a future. I suggest working at a hospital as a Nurse Tech or CNA. Very easy and a few weeks to be CNA.

Once working in a hospital they will pay for you to go to school to become a LVN which only takes 1 year of school in USA. You can become a RN with 2 years of school in USA, you only need a Associates Degree in Nursing to sit for NCLEX.

Wow, that was kind of harsh! Suggesting she does not have a future because she works in a store is ridiculous. Some people forge a career working in retail. Not every Filipina wants to be a 'cool' nurse.

I used to work part-time in Macy's when I was still in Las Vegas. If you're a regular employee, you don't have to worry because you will have schedule every week. For part-time employees, yes, there are weeks that you're not on schedule unless you pick up open shifts in employee connection site. You can also swap or give away your schedule to on-calls if you don't want to come on shift.
