So, i became a us citizen back in november. I am planning to move back to Europe and join the army there (job security) In order to join the army, my country doesn't allow me to have dual citizenship with any other country, so the US citizenship has to go. I am moving there in 2 weeks and I am afraid that the process is going to take longer than 2 weeks. Do you know if i can do this process abroad? So much for nothing... Sorry, this might not be the right forum. So much for nothing...

Thanks.

Andorra?

Do they have an Army?

You will have to renounce citizenship. This is how.

How to renounce

You cant do this inside the US, it has to be at a consulate and they can deny you.

See here: http://travel.state.gov/law/citizenship/citizenship_776.html very simple. You can do it in your home country but I wouldn't recommend that (seeing you don't want your home country to know because if they did they would automatically withdraw your foreign citizenship).

If this is your choice, so be it. Your other choice is to retain your USC and just not use it or disclose. The way I see it is this - if your home country finds out you took the US oath (even though you've since given it up), they could STILL take away your home countries citizenship because you already (verbally) renounced it when taking USC. So you can't tell them you HAD it, so you may as well not tell them you HAVE it.

If you feel it's more honest to just give it up and never mention you had it to begin with, then the previous link is what you need. If you choose to just put your US passport and USC docs in a security box somewhere and never use it again then just do that. Completely up to you though what you want to do.
