Then you should support its repeal.

And not have any health care reform? No thanks. Like Obama though, I'm all ears for ideas from the GOP on how to reform health care that will reduce its impact on our federal deficit. Wait, they didn't have one.....said our health care system didn't need any overhaul.

The Health Care Act was a compromise between private insurance companies and Right Wingers who oppose the idea of a single payer system.

Take off those blinkers and face reality.

The "healthcare" act was bought and paid for by the insurance companies, with the willing complicity of grasping Democrat politicians, who saw a limited window to get whatever pay-offs they could and went all-out to get them.

The GOP couldn't have affected the outcome if they had wanted to, because, for a span of time, they didn't have the votes to stop it. Of course, all the Democrat wheeling, dealing and conniving blew through this window of opportunity, leaving us with the pile of poo that a large majority of the electorate doesn't like and wants shot of.

The administration had the chance to enact real reform and failed. All they did was line the pockets of the insurance companies, pay off a number of opportunistic states and grant waivers to over 700 companies and organisations, including unions who pushed for this reform, to exempt them from its effects because they can't afford it.

Now tell me how this works for everyone.

You apparently know little about the legislative process. The public option was fought against by the Republicans, who claimed that having one would be detrimental to the insurance companies, while also stating it would be a government take-over of the private insurance industry. The fickleness of the public which can be swayed with enough persuasion was a factor going into the vote of that bill. In fact, many courageous Democrats who were elected in fairly conservative districts, knew that voting for the bill would be the end of their political career. Thankfully, they voted with their conscience.

Was it a complete giveaway to the insurance industry? Hardly. Just these two key elements, no one denied of coverage and having everyone insured are huge steps towards reform. It will go down as one of the most important pieces of legislation in a long time.

And yet again, in your condescension, you missed the point. For all their wailing and gnashing of teeth, the GOP didn't have the votes to stop a Bill, until Scott Brown won the late Senator Kennedy's seat. Even more telling is that the current mish-mash was voted into law after Senator Brown took up his seat.

The mess we are left with is solely down to the Democrats looking to their own self-interest and not doing what the country needed.

You seem to have this idea in your head that I support the GOP's position on this, despite ample evidence to the contrary. This does you no favours, as it shows you lack even basic comprehension. I don't give a damn what the GOP thinks on this matter. The only logical way forward is the single-payer system, eliminating the insurance companies and the 15-20% drain from the system. Anything else is just digging us deeper into trouble.

Yes, health insurance companies make profits. Is there something wrong with that?

But for you to be able to understand why they would charge more in premiums when mandated by the new law to cover pre-existing conditions, remove lifetime caps and cover dependents up to 26 years of age, you'd have to understand how insurance works. That's something I doubt you do understand, since you think premiums are just arbitrarily charged.

OMG. Someone has a clue. My faith is starting to return.good.gif

As a private transaction between a willing buyer and a seller - no.

When the profits are syphoned off the taxpayers' dollars, yes, there's plenty wrong with that.

...or two clueless ditto heads that regurgitate what the Right Wing pundits spew out.

And what you spout doesn't sound anything like what the morons on MSNBC say. /sarcasm.

I like how you've ignored several salient points in this debate. It just shows that you are blindly guided by your own ideology [something you accuse those Tea Baggers of doing, I'm sure].

Let's see who is ignoring the facts:

The topic of this thread was how the GOP is trying to kill the Health Care Act because, according to them, it adds to the deficit. The CBO shows that it not only reduces the deficit, but repealing the law will add to the deficit.

Luckytxn goes on his usual rant about Socialists and blaming his head apparitions for why his monthly premiums have gone up. I suggested he either write a letter to his insurance company or find a better offer as the Health Care Act as passed, did not have any provisions to prevent private insurance companies from raising their rates.

You then stated with absolute certainty that his rates have been increased because of the new law and I replied with more facts.

......

Where in the law it declares any caps on insurance premiums? You won't find any, but you'll continue bitching about rate increases that are no different from previous rate increases. Health insurance has been going up and about the best this law does is prevent anyone from being denied insurance and requires everyone to be covered. Far from perfect, but better than no reform at all. The mandate will bring down costs for the insurance companies, offsetting any added costs with having to cover everyone. But hey, I suppose some of you Right Wingers think it's fine and dandy to have people denied coverage because of pre-existing conditions. Such is the way of the RWN's - totally out of touch with the average American just struggling to get by.

It does so, only by raising taxes and stealing from old people.

Stealing from old people is not what the GOP is overly concerned about. Yes, they were crying about pulling the plug on Grandma and how the Medicare system would see far fewer funds than if the health care system were left alone. And what do they propose? Yes, to scrap Medicare altogether. Get rid of it once and for all. How's that for pulling the plug on Grandma? I mean, seriously, how can the GOP be taken seriously on the issue anymore?
