You're supposed to get out of your car and walk across first, if you make to the other side and back then its safe to drive your car across. hard to believe how dumb some people can be

I love when they decide momentum will get them safely across, so they back up, and take a run at it. When the engine stalls, the wake does take them part way across, before they sink.

My favorite was last year on US 167 north of Little Rock a part was flooded and a state policeman stopped me and the next lane saying that he was closing it. I had gotten out and said that my big truck could make it easily but the 4 wheelers couldn't so I wanted to go. He said that it wasn't fair to allow us big trucks to go and not the cars. I went back to my truck and some other drivers behind me got on the cb and asked me what he said. I said that the officer said it was OK for us big trucks to go on as we could make it. I then put it in gear and drove on and through the flooded part along with about 4 other big trucks before he stopped them again. I figure he couldn't get through to chase me down so why not?

Do you go through a lot of bearing that way? You know what happens when the hot drivers hit that water don't you? On the military trucks, we had to close the vents to keep the water out of the differentials when fording streams and such. And, that also required inspecting the fluids and wheel bearings later on when the vehicles were turned in.

I don't worry about that usually. I will check the fluids and levels all the time but the reason we have service techs is so we can make these hard decisions and get the freight where everyone wants and the techs can fix and keep us going.

No I am a company driver. I had to go into trucking to get away from stress so why create stress for myself? It is best for me to create stress for others I found long ago.
