My wife got approved with naturalization last Oct 2010. You mentioned about updating the SSN? She needs to update her SSN in order to get a US Passport? Is that right?

Congratulations! I just signed my regular signature with a ball point pen :) .

You might want to stop in and update your SSN before you apply for your passport. They can take a copy of your certificate and when the information is updated at USCIS to reflect your citizenship, they can issue you a new SSN card and make sure your status is updated on their files. Then you can apply for your passport. Be sure to make colour copies for yourself before you send off your certificate with the passport application as well (we were told you are allowed to make copies for official purposes and making a copy or two for personal safeguarding of the certificate was considered acceptable).

You may want to update your Driver's license as well (it depends on what your state requires) as well as register to vote (you will need your certificate or passport for both of those).

I had my ceremony at a district court, got my naturalization certificate, SS card updated and voter's registration application done right then and there before I left the court after the ceremony. The SSA ppl didn't even make a hard copy of my certificate (b/c there wasn't any copier around and the SSA ppl were inside the courtroom when I took the oath and received my certificate).

Then I went to my local post office that afternoon to apply for my 1st US passport, they made a copy of my driver's license and took away my naturalization certificate and name change court order (yes I changed my name :) ) I paid the fee for the routine service and I received my bland new passport 9 days later and my naturalization certificate and name change court order were returned to my one week after I got my passport. Then the SS card came in one week later and I updated my driver's license with the BMV last Saturday and my amended license was mailed to me today. All I can say is Thank You LORD Jesus for making the process super smooth for me!!

Best of luck to y'all who are still wrestling with the CIS.

BTW, it's a longtime custom to sign any legal document in black ink.

The crazy part is, getting the first Green Card is really a fantastic feeling. Then, after ROC, the 10-year Card is another step up. Finally, naturalization brings this to a new dimension, yet it's so much easier and relaxed.

When I passed my N-400 interview, I felt great; when I got my certificate, I was floating on clouds. When I got my passport, I --finally -- had arrived. Now it's all a thing of the past and I'm looking for something to await with anticipation.

Wonder if I should run for office . . .

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.
