What's the deal with the tourist visa? How does it compare to the fiance visa? Is one faster to get? Is one easier? Can you get married with both of them? I imagine it depends on the country, I'm talking about Peru... any insights?

It looks like you've already applied for the fiance visa, so I would just stick with that. My fiance is from the UK, so he's never had to get a tourist visa, but from what I've heard it can take just as long and you might be denied since you're doing the K-1. When you get the fiance visa, you've already been approved to enter the country and stay (as long as you marry and file the rest of the paperwork) whereas with the tourist visa I think there's a chance you'd have to leave after the marriage while you file for whatever spouse visa you choose (Someone correct me if I'm wrong).

If you are already in the K1 visa process is very likely that in the consulate denied the tourist visa to your fiance(e). If they give you the visa may be denied entry to U.S. and return to his/ her country.

I am in the k1 process and also I have a tourist visa, but that's not a problem! The thing is you can not enter the U.S. with a tourist visa if you are in a migration process

If you can prove that you have significant ties to your home country (Peru in this case) it is fast to get a tourist visa. It takes about 2-3 weeks to get an interview (you just call and make an appointment) and then 5 days to get the visa in hand. However, significant ties basically means that you need to have a lot of money, a house, a car, a business, or a degree in something like medicine or law. Otherwise they will assume that you are going to be overstay your visa and become an illegal immigrant.

However, I have heard (my friend tried to get one) that when you go for a tourist visa interview in Peru if you mention the word girlfriend/boyfriend or fiance/e they immediately deny your case because of the immigration possibility. But you also don't want to lie to them, so it makes the interview a bit tricky. As for fiance visas in Peru, it doesnt seem to take too long to get an interview (3-6 weeks), the long part is just waiting for your NOA2 (5 months). Before my fiance and I tried for the fiance visa, he had applied for a student visa and was denied because he didn't have "significant ties" to Peru.

Hope that helps.

This is not true. It's always up to the discretion of the CBP officer. Many people have entered the US with a tourist visa while they were waiting for the K1 process. Many others have been denied entry. It all depends on whether the CBP officer believes you intend to stay and adjust status rather than return and wait for the K1 visa.
