I have a Jewish (ok, a stereotypically Jewish) hook nose and I'm not interested in realigning it or anything, just cutting off the tip of it. My mother wants to buy a nose job for me because she said it's going to look pretty ugly when I get older, like my grandma's, which is très Wicked Witch. My dad has already had the tip of his cut off because it started to impede his breathing. Mom and brother were blessed with little Norwegian noses.

Has anyone been through this? Recommend it? Think I'm shallow and vain? Offer to do a photoshopping for me?

I have an opinion (go for it), however, it is hard to judge with no picture to work with. :P

I have always wanted a nose job...hubby doesn't agree but I think he is supposed to say stuff like that. Thanks to reality shows on plastic surgery I am grossed out by it now. Even though I will be unconscious during it...but they did show this girl who was having trouble breathing afterwards (the doctor said it was normal). She went in for her follw up visit and he used these tweezers and pulled out what looked like clumped up coagulated blood!!!! I was terrified.

You're not shallow or anything...do what makes you feel good.

I have a slight bump on the bridge of my nose too...but you know they showed a new technique on tv where the Dr. gave this girl a shot directly on the bump and it went away.

P.S. I think you're gorgeous!

Oh my, I haven't seen very many shows like that... I don't know if I'd get rid of the bump then! Definitely just the cartilage at the end... ok now I am sufficiently scared. Thanks for the compliment (F)

Alex, I think it looks fine. You like Jennifer Grey from Dirty Dancing....and incidentally she had her nose done and now she's not recognizable which is sad.

I don't think plastic surgery makes you vain or shallow. You are georgous, and I definitely do not think anyone looks at you and focuses on your nose. Make sure it is something you want and that you are doing it for you, not your mom or anyone else.

I agree  you don't *NEED* it at all, because you're very pretty as-is :D, but if your nose makes you feel self-conscious and it's not a big procedure, then I don't think it's vain or shallow to have it done. Just make sure you really want to do it before you commit to it though -- maybe using photoshop to alter a photo wouldn't be a bad idea. You can use it to see how you may look/show the doctor what you'd like the results to be.

I had Rhinoplasty when I was 21, but it was to correct a deviated septum. I cannot say it was a success, but I did ultimately learn that maybe Army doctors aren't the best Plastic Surgeons.
