It's irrelevant.

There are lots of things that we don't know and/or science hasn't explained yet.

It doesn't mean that we should make up stories to explain them.

bla bla bla

I'm very happy believing stories, thank you.

Hey, if it works for you, great! I think that all cultures throughout history have attempted explanations of life and the natural phenomena around us. I sort of like the native americans idea of the big turtle being involved!

Thank you. :) Well I don't expect everyone to agree with me. Some are just trying to make people who are religious look stupid. I sometimes wonder if I were to pursue certain careers in life, that I wouldn't be taken seriously in the intellectual world for having faith. That's sad. There is a conflict being created between intelligence and faith, in my opinion.

Some people think that way, even my husband decided in university that his training in engineering conflicted with what he had been taught religiously - but the majority of engineers he works with now are religious and often devout. I am not sure he ever got close enough to discuss this with any of his colleagues.

Probably all Freemasons to boot.

I am not religious. But I respect people who find comfort and help in religious belief. For me I cannot resolve what I know from science with the fundamentalist version of christianity I grew up with. I am not attracted to catholicism for a number of reasons, but I find it intriguing that they accept evolution, the big bang, etc.! My own belief is that 'god' is an integral part of all life and has been from its beginning. But this god for me is more of an abstraction, certainly not a discrete physical entity. Everyone should have the right to their own religious beliefs.

Christina, watch the colbert link a few posts above. He's said it many times. It does seem like he doesn't know. Not everyone remembers everything they learned in middle school science.

BUT if I had to spin what he says in his favor, I'd point people to the colbert clip and you'll see how often he has made this point. And he seems to stress the fact that it happens every time without fail. Well, man made systems fail. They fail a lot. I think that may be what he's getting at - the sheer defect-freeness of the system. Who else but God could design that? -- is what I think he could be saying.

Bill can't see gravity. Therefore it doesn't exist.

That's a bit scary. I sure hope they don't trust God to hold the bridge together and

actually design the structural components correctly.

My dad was a structural engineer and most of his peers (the ones I knew) were very religious. To the point of silliness, actually.

if i was a structural engineer, i'd be praying too. :hehe:

Bill O'Reilly seems to be a scientist ...just like the Pope is now. :hehe:

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Perfect synchronization, really? Look around. The world couldn't be more chaotic.
