It makes me think of Chekov on Star Trek. Everything seemed to be a Russian inwention.

Just thank God they still like looking like women here! I don't care who invented it.

I remember watching TV during my first trip to Russia, there was a Married with Children knock off running on late night TV. Anna told me this was a famous TV show for years there. I sat and watched and actually remembered the episode from when I watched it as a kid here in the states.

I've managed to find some Russian movies with English dubbing here. Of course I didn't know I'd already seen them in Russia...

In Odessa they ran porn after about midnight on two of the local channels. It was US porn dubbed in Russian. The funny thing was it was sponsored by usual commercial interests, the sex would be interrupted for a "Vanish" toilet bowl cleaner commercial! It was a HOOT! Gives whole new meaning to the term "soap opera". The most funny thing was that they dubbed the moans and groans also! And often they had MEN's voices dubbing the lines and moans and groans for women. :o

Absolutely the Russian food, Pelmeni, Galopsie, cutleta, BORSHT, blini, etc.

Been twice in 2010 and this past New Year and both times my baggage was delayed for three days. Not a problem :-)

We took the Mietro to the aeroport in Kharkov and back to Lena's. She stopped in a shop near her Mietro station to buy a couple of items and I waited for her while standing on the street clutching my suitcase and smoking a cigarette. Suddenly, out of nowhere 2 policia approached me and what I could ascertain reprimanded me for smoking in public. Well, since I have very basic Russian language skills all I could do is say "pa Angliske? Fortunately Lena came running and all it took was a few harsh words to the cops and we all went on our way. Lena told me the policia saw TOURIST written all over my face and were certain that they would be able to scam some USD or Euros from me. Lesson learned.

Another thing I learned is that Ukrainian people enjoy being at home among their loved ones and family. They work sometimes 2-3 jobs and relish home. Proud to be Ukrainian!

Vice versa. Americans created it, they just made an adaptation in Russia.

Don't tell that to my wife!

I always thought "Kukla" was a strange name, turns out is is Russian for "doll".

Jabba the Hut makes a lot more sense to me now.

I remember watching TV during my first trip to Russia, there was a Married with Children knock off

My wife showed me this one on YouTube or something. I forget the name of it, but it was almost exactly the same. Still funny, even in Russian. But without Kelly Bundy, I can't watch it.

Fortunately Lena came running and all it took was a few harsh words to the cops

If you'll notice, Russians (FSU in general) basically tell the cops to p!ss off whenever they encounter them. If there's only one or two cops, they generally figure it's not worth their time. This works for tourists too.

 i won't.

It's called "Happy together". I personally like the original version better.

Careful with that. You gotta know the right words, or you might get in trouble, especially being a foregner.

My fiance still can't understand why i'm treating him like a little kid when he comes to Russia, but i never leave him alone in the street and never ever ever let him try any food sold in the streets or kvas sold by babushkas.

He owes you one for that "beverage" alone. Actually, I think he should have to try some, we've all had to!

definately not a kvas fan myself

It is an acquired taste. I found a place in Montreal that sells bottled Kvas, but it is not as good as the stuff I used to get from the Kvas wagons. After the fact I heard terrible things about those Kvas wagons. Probably not true.

I usually outweigh BOTH cops that walk down the street together so they leave me alone.

In all seriousness the only militsi I encountered over there were off-duty and as hammered as I was. No big deal. But I remember how skinny (and young) most of them were. I don't think I'd have too much of a problem "convincing" them to look for a bribe elsewhere, especially the dudes with no radio. Although I did see some cops shaking down a dude on the bus for having no ticket. My wife immediately said, "I'll go get the tickets" because we didn't have any either.
