Carpooling

What are your experiences?

My husband and I were set to drive from Los Angeles to Las Vegas on December 30. Our two friends (N and X), a desi couple, suggested a week before that we carpool using their car. We agreed to do that thinking if the two men would get inebriated, the Indian wife could just take the wheel.

N and X reminded us that they would pick us up at 10 a.m. on the 30th. My bana and I were ready to meet them at 9:50 a.m. on the said day. There was no heads-up that they'd be late. X arrived in our house around 11 a.m. informing us that his wife was buying something at a mall and it would take her another 15 minutes. We all waited until we drove to the mall at 11:45. I was silently upset and when she finally took her seat in the car, she smiled. I asked her, "What did you get?" I would've spoken it this way, "What piece of cr@p did you get from this freakin mall that you couldn't find in Vegas?"

N answered, "I had my eyebrows threaded. How about you, Ariadne? Do you like your brows threaded or waxed?" She also asked what time I woke up and I told her at 7:30 a.m. She gladly explained that she was awake at 7:30, went back to sleep and rose at 8:00 and dozed off again until 10 a.m. The best part of that was she didn't apologize. She walked into the car as if nothing happened.

I was completely furious. I decided to sleep in the backseat as long as possible en route to Vegas so I wouldn't have to talk to her. It's never lovely to be late. Never!

The rest of our new year trip was fun anyway. The four of us are going to Big Bear Lake next weekend for a two-night stay in a B&B and sledding or skiing. There's no way that they'll ever have a chance again to carpool with me and my husband.

May we all have better health and wealth this 2011 and more new years to come.

Umm, it's a concept called Indian Standard Time. Your husband should have introduced you to it

He mentioned that but it's no excuse. Pinoys are also popular for the "Filipino time" yet it's not something to practice.

Don't forget that the regular road to Big Bear is gone and you have to take one of the back ways. You wouldn't want to be late for skiing

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

The innkeeper sent an e-mail five days ago regarding the closure of Route 330. :star:
