This is OT, but on your W-4 you can always increase the number of deductions you claim (so less taxes are withheld ), therefore reducing the amount of the refund you expect. In practical terms a tax refund is a 0% interest loan to the government, so the smaller the refund amount the better...cool.gif

lol I know but I kinda like having the amount of taxes we pay now, we don't feel a thing of it as we make enough.. and once it gets to the next year, we get a nicely sized refund which we use for certain extra's we would normally not do. Besides, I know I could put the money aside every month, but I also know when I stopped smoking (and I smoked a lot) I ended up never doing this (not that we don't save, we do but that money is for other stuffs lol). No interest is ok, it's not like we would get much when it was on the bank anyways (besides, what if we all of the sudden owe money to the IRS? That feeling is usually more sore lol)

Oh well, to each their own of course :)

Back on topic: Bah... not always fun to live on an island in the middle of nowhere.. ours was also send on the 5th but I wont have to expect it to be delivered before the 8th (tmr) because of the distance

Hi michellemilitza.. no worries, we all used the same form and there's no new one available. There's a thread somewhere else where they explaned why that date is there, it has something to do with the paper reduction act or something like that... not exactly sure what it was lol, but yah, nothing to worry :)

That OMB expiration date is an internal review date and has nothing to do with the form being accepted. Look at the bottom of any form to see the Form Date. If yours says 11/23/2010, you are using the latest form, but two previous ones are accepted according to USCIS.

Hi All-

I know pictures are secondary evidence, but just wondering if most of you sent color copies or black and white? My printer is black and white only, so that's what I went with...but as I get ready to complete everything, I am questioning whether it does matter?

Also, for everything related to the green card in the past we used an attorney, so we never got notified of anything via mail directly. I am wondering once we send this off, since we are not using an attorney for removing the conditions, will we be notified of everything via mail?

Thanks!

I did color photos, but if you can't print in color and your black and whites are clear then it shouldn't matter. You know...aren't all so gray you can't tell who's the husband and who's the puppy. LOL

Your NOAs etc will come to the address you put on the form. I'm still waiting on the first NOA and we have a new address, so I'm certainly hoping they get it right. The check has been cashed, so I guess I'll know before long.

Thanks!

I just went to Costco and had a couple of pictures printed. They're dirt cheap and it looks a bit better than just printed pictures imho. However, I doubt it makes any difference, as long as the faces in the picture, and the surroundings, are clearly visible :)

No worries, we never used an attorney and got this far as well, it saves a lot of money not using an attorney and I would tell anybody, who doesn't have anything weird going on that they really cannot figure out themselves, to not take an attorney. I actually have a thing going on due to a verbal court order but still I got here :)

It might take a bit but it never took too long to get notified. The way it works is a bit like this: You send the package out, they receive it (you can also follow this part by sending the mail with signature request to make it even more sure it got there) and they cash the check (personal check is better because you can also track that one as opposed to a cashiers check (well I suppose you could always check at the bank in person lol)). The paperwork is then placed on a large pile, and once they get to yours (which doesn't mean they're actually working on it but instead they're just placing it on the right spot) they send out the NOA1. I've seen it take a week, but also take a month to actually receive the NOA1. No worries though, as long as you see the check is cashed and the package has been signed for, you'll know for sure it has arrived :)

Btw, here's how that process goes (I posted these pics before on visajourney somewhere else, they come from some annual 2008 DHS report, it didn't say which service center):

Here's the USCIS loading dock, where they receive your petition:

fileau.jpg

And here is the file room, where your petition gets stored:

fileyhf.jpg

Here's the source: http://www.dhs.gov/xlibrary/assets/CISOMB_Annual_Report_2008.pdf (page 29)

Somewhere in between they send out the NOA1... it's not weird it sometimes takes a bit of time before the NOA1 gets send out, especially not when I read the following part on a Dutch forum (it's in metric, but to make it easy: 1 meter is approximately 3 feet):

"6 million petitions per year, 200 working days a year, and an average size of 3 mm high envelop is giving 6000000/200*0.003 = about 90 meters paper per day in height"

(btw, 3 mm is really small, I think most packages are more like 2-3 cm, so go figure)
