Well, we had our interview today in Tampa. It was scheduled for 1.30pm – we were directed to the “holding trailer” at about 12:40pm, told to wait there and our names would be called.

At 1.00pm, our name was called and we proceeded to the main building. Went through the security check-points and a middle-aged gentleman (never gave us his name!) told us to follow him through a maze of corridors. We arrived at the office and were told to remain standing for the oath. He then asked for Darryl’s driving license, my passport, I94, EAD card.

He then proceeded to ask the following questions:-

To me (UK citizen):

Does Darryl have a middle name, if so what is it?

His birth date

Place of birth

Name of his mother and father

To Darryl

What is Beverley’s birth date – my husband’s mind went completely blank – he apologized to the interviewer and answered December 11, 1959 – the interviewer replied “Close – it’s the 10th”!! He then looked at some papers and asked me, if indeed, my birth date was the 10th – as one form had the 11th – I assured him it was the 10th and that my husband didn’t really need to know apart from this interview as I always reminded him numerous times before the actual date so he wouldn’t forget!

He then said “Beverley’s place of birth – this should be easy” – my husband replied “England” (didn’t question him on actual town/city)

Name of my mother and father – this he answered correctly!!

The interviewer then stated that he noted that our marriage was August 14th, 2004 – to which I replied “Yes, day after Hurricane Charley” – “Oh yes he replied, but it is more important than that – I’ll explain later”.

He then asked if our address was correct and if we owned it together. I proceeded to explain that I had purchased the house in 2002 and it was something that we hadn’t got around to in adding Darryl’s name to the Deeds. He said it didn’t matter – did I have any other “evidence”, to which I gave him bank statements (checking, savings & credit card), utility bills, auto insurance, 2005 tax return (he never did ask for my updated Affidavit of Support). I continued to look through my mountain of evidence, when he said that what I had given him was ample. He then asked for my medical papers that he opened and stapled to my file

I then had the usual “terrorist” questions – all replies “no”. He was continually checking with a red pen all the sheets of paper in my file.

Then came the magical “stamp” – he explained that this was a temporary stamp, good for one year for travel/employment – the actual green-card would arrive in 6-8 weeks and it would be for 10 years as the two year anniversary of our wedding had already passed. Explained citizenship procedures in 3 years – said the USA recognizes dual citizenship, but the UK doesn’t – something I’ll investigate now the actual AOS process is finished with.

We were back in the car by 1.:20pm.

I would like to thank everyone here on VJ for their support and help during this process – I hope all your dreams come true and speedily!!!

Congratulations! Thanks for sharing your experiences.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
