Hello!

I've got my appointment for Biometrics for both the I-485 and I-765 for next Thursday, 12/16.

Our "local" office is over 200 miles away, in New Orleans (the nearest office is in Houston, only 144 miles away), so I was wondering if there are any magic phrases or expressions that can be used to achieve extra things while I'm there - like the fabled "Employment Authorized" stamp in my passport.

Many thanks for all your help so far.

You could try a walk-in at the Houston office, since they are closer and you have an appointment. I've read a number of posts where VJ members have been able to do this; it doesn't matter if you get it done at your "local office" as long as it is done.

The opportunity for the fabled "Employment Authorized" has come and gone since you went through the POE without so much as a shadow of the stamp.

Sooner you can get biometrics, the sooner your EAD will be processed.

The employment authorised stamp is NOT valid for employment. It is constantly incorrectly issued. If you receive the stamp you cannot use it anyway... so referring to it as an "opportunity" is incorrect because it's not an opportunity for anything except a pretty (and useless) stamp in your passport.

OP - as stated you COULD try a walk-in to the closer office, bearing in mind if it's to save travelling so far and you're rejected you've actually travelled more than you saved. There's nothing else you can really do except plan something else "fun" to do in that town if you don't want to waste the drive. My office was 170 miles away from our home and we didn't do anything except drive there and back.. lucky too 'cause we beat a BIG storm back.

Thanks for the replies!

I've already got a few things I'd like to see in New Orleans, so the trip is both business and pleasure and we're going to make a day of it. I was just wondering if there's anything else that can be achieved while at the USCIS office, as I suspect the biometrics scenario will be over with in a few minutes.

You're right, it will take maybe 15 minutes, any extra length of time would be waiting.

Unfortunately no, there is nothing else that you can do at the appointment.

Have fun in New Orleans :)
