Can anyone give me advice on how to go about changing my name back in Scotland after I get married here in Vermont next week? We plan to file the AOS paperwork pretty quickly after we get married and I am unclear on exactly how to make sure my name is officially changed to my new married name.

05-2010 I-129F application received by USCIS.

05-2010 NOA1 received.

07-2010 NOA2 received.

07-2010 Packet 3 received.

08-2010 Packet 3 returned.

09-2010 Medical in London.

10-2010 Interview at US Embassy in London: Approved.

10-2010 POE Newark, NJ.

11-2010 Married in Vermont.

03-2011 Notice of acceptance of AOS packet.

03-2011 Biometrics appointment in St Albans.

03-2010 Case transfered to California Service Centre.

04-2011 I-485 Approved.

This might be better in the UK forums. I'm not sure...I'm the American here and I STILL have to carry around my marriage license and such because everything is not changed over.

NOA 1: Received 2-16-10

NOA 2: Approved 4-29-10 (72 Days)

NVC Forwarded Petition to London- 5-6-10

NVC Letter Received: 5-7-1010

London Received Packet: 5-14-10

London Mailed Packet to Rob: 5-18-10

Packet 3 Received by Rob: 5-22-2010

Packet 3 paperwork mailed to Rob 6-12-10

Medical- July 8, 2010

Everything mailed to Embassy 7-19-10

Interview Date: 9-14-10- Approved pending non-machine washed replacement passport.

Received notice- I-485 has been transferred to the California Service Center 2-9-11.

3-11-11 - EAD production ordered

3-31-2011- AOS approved without interview

If you're asking because you are concerned about your name for AOS, just apply in the new married last name. The marriage license shows why the name is different from your visa and passport. Carry your marriage license for the same purpose if you will travel internationally before your passport expires. Then get a new UK passport in your married name when the time comes.

If you just want somebody in Scotland to know your name is different.....I don't know. Ask your UK friends and family how they notified their bank, credit cards, etc when they got married. Call them, email them, write them??

I just read that I can get extra certified copies of my marriage certificate and send them to the appropriate places.

As a UK citizen you can also have a copy of that certificated 'deposited' in the national registry.

I plan to have my passport changed soon after my wedding (tomorrow) and I shall carry my certificate with my passport until then. Thanks for the advice!
