Did you already have your SSN? I took my driving test when I got here... obviously the DL expired with my I-94. So when I got my EAD I went to renew and they told me that "they couldn't confirm my lawful presence". Is this because my Maiden name is in SAVE? I'm not understanding...in fact I'm annoyed. Anyway, they put in some request and said to come back in five days HOWEVER I've been reading on here how it's taken some people at least two months to have been updated #######?

Good luck with the job hunting (me, you and everyone else that's looking!). Congrats to all that are done with the process!

CQ & CS that sucks! :( but at least you have your other documents :)

Ya that sucks! This time I will make sure all the prints "Passed" before I go.

I actually had my SSN from when I was in the US in 1996 on an L-2 visa. At the time (pre 9/11) dependents could be issued with SSNs so they could be included on their L-1's insurance.

We POEed and got married 8 days later. Day 10 I went to the SSA with my SS card, marriage certificate, previous marriage certificate (to show name change from maiden name on record to name on passport) I-94, passport with K-1 and asked to update my details (name and address). They couldn't find me on SAVE, so said they'd send an inquiry off but updated my records to show my new name. Maybe 3 weeks later I got my new card in the mail.

I think because I'd updated my name way back when, there weren't any problems with applying for my DL. It expires the day before my EAD, and thank god coz I was so frazzled by the time photo taking rolled around, I look like a serial killer. lol

Timeline Summary:

ROC mailed - approved: 14 February - 18 June 2013

I forgot to bring paperwork that showed:

"Proof of a bona fide marriage and shared life together. This may include, but are not limited to: Bills in both names, bank accounts in both names, birth certificates of children born of the marriage, purchases made together, school records of your children, any other documentation that establishes a marital union."

I had it ready to go in a separate pile, but I just forgot to bring it with me.
