I keep getting a message that says "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close" (Yeah, we're sorry, blah blah blah)

Anyway, I was trying to look things up in google to figure it out and found one that said do a free run of EWIDO to remove things from your computer, so I was doing that. Twice it was nearly finished, which was taking a while as it was, and shut down because of this IE problem. I saw that I had tons of tracking cookies on there and a couple of Proxy problems too, whatever they are. I'm just glad the stupid thing is letting me on long enough to type this message...sometimes it's 1 minute, sometimes 15, but it usually always shuts down on me.

Oh yeah...I am going to try Firefox again, but I would just as soon not have that as a solution just NOW, because I really want to get the IE thing fixed and I also saw a bunch of tracking cookies from the Mozilla site on there when it got that far too.

Any suggestions would be greatly!! appreciated....

Michelle

IE is notorious for things like that. There are a few things you can try. Make sure you have all the updates from microcrap. Try downloading the newest version if you have an old version. You might have installed another program that is hosing IE. Think about anything you installed just before your IE went south and if so uninstall that program. You could try restoring to a previous set-point that worked before you started having these problems. If all else fails you can run your windows setup disc and choose repair when prompted. (not repair console it's after that). Firefox is much more stable and has less security problems. I would go with that if you can't get IE to work.

Thanks Gary and Gwen. I do intend to install Firefox again, so I may as well do it now as it only takes a minute. I remember from last time I did it though, that I can't use my IE shortcuts anymore, and there didn't seem to be a way to just right click and make a shortcut for the desktop to the sites I visit most with Firefox. I'm sure there must be SOMEthing...did I just miss it last time?

Gary, I did try to do a system restore as well, but it only let me go back about a week. I tried to go back to the previous month, but for some reason it wouldn't let me go back that far. Hmmm. Thx for the help. M.

Edit to add: I suppose I could run the windows disk then; that seems like it could be an easy(ish) fix as well. I've never used it but to install Windows, so I guess I didn't even realize you could do repairs only without doing a complete reinstall. I can use a computer alright, but as you see I have no idea about the techy aspect! :)

Easy solution: install Firefox.

The only problem with Firefox is things on some Websites don't work correctly with Firefox. For instance, the music clips on Amazon.com will not play with Firefox or at least I can't get them to work. My printer has a quick Website print bar that will not install on Firefox. On the Plus side I like the little add-ons you can install with Firefox.

I also use the Thunderbird e-mail program and I like that better that Outlook.
