I called it a few weeks ago. Bigot is the new cliche for Libs.

For example:

Me: 'I prefer Steel Cut oatmeal over wholefoods _____ '.

Libs: Bigot!

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Can you give me a example because I find that when a person wants to be offensive they us the word F@gg@t.

I believe most gay people dont get offended when things are said like "that electric car is gay".

The meaning of the word in that context is inherently pejorative. That's why it's dodgy.

You can find out for yourself what gay people think about that. It's essentially the soft face of bigotry. No this does not mean everyone who says "that electric car is gay" is a bigot, but the association is there. People need to be aware of the ideology behind their use of language.

it's not ones job to worry about offending another person. Being offended by a word or phrase is very much a personal problem when the context that's used is not meant to be in a derogatory manner towards a group/individual.

Is it a brand?

No it's a type. It's less refined, which means it takes longer to cook.

It's very much the responsibility of the individual to understand the meanings behind the words that they use.

If you use language that is bigoted, you can hardly be surprised if you are called a bigot. You might not be, but people make judgements based on how to conduct yourself, not what's in your heart.

Pleading ignorance is no defence.

Steel Cut oats are just processed differently from instant oatmeal. They are whole grain oats that are cut rather than being rolled. So they look more grainy instead of flaky like instant oatmeal.

ETA: Sometimes they are called Scottish Oats at the supermarket.

I would hardly worry about a "gay" person being offended by a word they that stole as it is. Sorry, tough luck for them if they are offended by something being called 'gay.'

You have a right to offend, just as much as you have a right to be offended. That's what people seem to forget.

If that's the kind of dialogue you want to have... You don't have to worry about it because it doesn't affect you, that's why you can write it off out of hand.

You might not care, that doesn't mean the issue doesn't exist.

It's only an issue because someone makes it an issue.

Everyone is offended by everything. That doesn't mean it's an issue/big deal.

Something only becomes a big deal when the media hypes it up or someone in power gets offended.

Do you really think this movie trailer would have been made a big deal out of if a twit like Anderson Cooper weren't gay and weren't personally taking issue with it because of who he is? Of course not. A couple of people would have been like 'ugh' and you would have never heard a word about it and life would have gone on just fine without this sort of discussion.

It's easy to say when you aren't on the receiving end of broadband brush prejudice.

Are you familiar with hidden ideology in language? It's part of linguistic studies.

I understand what you are trying to say and am familiar. A lot of that has to do ultimately with how strong or weak minded an individual is though.

Just because someone wants to use the word 'gay' in a negative manner, doesn't mean they consider a 'gay' person in a negative light. It's all relative to the situation and the individual. The words might essentially be used originally in a negative manner on purpose, but in a situation like this as has been pointed out, it's a bastardized word to begin with. So both parties therefore are wrong in their usage. Any harm/foul in on the individual who considers himself to be 'gay' in a homosexual manner to begin with.
