thank you all for your help & suggestions.

my K1 visa has been finally approved.

but now my concern is relating to ability to work. I really don’t want to be idle when in the States. I will go crazy if I am idle for more than 3 weeks.

please how do I apply for a permit to work?

I here of the SSN... how do I apply for this?

our wedding is wished in the first month of my arrival in the states.

but please I need advice here

how do I get a Social Security?

can I get the Social Security before I get to the US?

I hear about temporary number, ITIN, EAD, I don’t know how they work ; or how to get them.

the Temporary number.... has it got validity on it?

do I need apply for another thereafter?

and if I was to be working... do I have to stop working on expiry of the Temporary number if it was to be a Temp?

please I need advice.

I have a good job in the UK; but my fiancée and I decided we should live in the USA.

I really am scared to be unable to work cos my fiancée hasn’t got a one at the moment? I will go crazy if I am jobless/idle for up to 4 weeks max.

what can I do.

can I get explanation for these ..... temporary number, ITIN, EAD

You cannot work in the US without authroization. A k-1 visa is not work authorized, even with an SSN. You need to get married and file your adjustment of status and apply for your EAD

http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1k3aos

You should be able to go to your local SSN office to get an SSN, however it will likely have "not valid without DHS authorization" stamped on it, which means you need a work permit

Good luck

If you go crazy after 3 weeks I would advise finding some kind of activity (like doing sports, writing...) for when you get there since it will probably be at least 3 months before you get work authorization plus the time to look for and find a job.....

Good luck on your journey

omg!!!

I am not so sure but I once read that a Temp number can be issued at Point of Entry.

but does this mean that - I wiil be idle for as long as from when I arrive the US + when married + when we apply for SSN + 90 days before I have permission to work ?

what then is ITIN Number? the Temp SSN?

please how do they work?

I haven't hear about a temp SSN personally

the SSN is NOT ENOUGH to work when adjusting from a K-1 visa as said by canadian_wife, you need to fill for work authorization (form I-765) when you fill for AOS

You can get a work permit (EAD) a couple of months after applying to adjust your status (AOS). When you file your AOS packet, it is free to include the EAD form in your AOS packet.

I here of the SSN... how do I apply for this?

About ten days or two weeks after you arrive in the U.S., go to your local Social Security office and apply for a Social Security card.

our wedding is wished in the first month of my arrival in the states.

but please I need advice here

how do I get a Social Security?

See above.

can I get the Social Security before I get to the US?

I don't think so.

You legally can't work until you get your EAD. If you apply for your EAD when you apply for your AOS, you will receive your EAD in a couple of months.

please I need advice.

I have a good job in the UK; but my fiancée and I decided we should live in the USA.

can I get explanation for these ..... temporary number, ITIN, EAD

ok

but this is what I am taliking about:

http://www.visajourn...34#entry4181934

she got EAD & SSN Stamped @ JFK and they are filing for her AOS the following week.

my question is relating to this.

I see what you're talking about. This matter have been discussed a lot on VJ.

I found other posts here that say the rule have changed and even if you have a stamp it no longer authorizes you to work.

yeah, you cannot work although they stamp your passport at the POE. you'll have to apply for adjustment of status and EAD, after getting married. and it will take approximately 60 days from when you apply to receive it.

once you get here you can go to a ssa office and get a ssn, but it will be useless to work without EAD, because it will have "not valid without DHS authorization" stamped on it.

The K-1 is not work authorized. It was acceptable for a while but that is no longer the case.

http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-9.pdf

Look at the list of acceptable documents that must be provided in order to work. If you do not have them, you cannot work in the US

SSN's are issued IN the US, you cannot get one until you enter the US. Your SSN will also have "not vaild without DHS authorization" on it, the DHS authorization comes in the form of your EAD

Good luck

she got EAD & SSN Stamped @ JFK and they are filing for her AOS the following week.

Please read your link again.

They did not file for AOS "the following week." She got her EAD at JFK on July 7. They are filing for AOS the week of September 13.

Also, she did not have a Social Security Card nor a Social Security Number when she arrived at JFK, so there was nothing to stamp.
