I received our NOA's in the mail on 4th Sep 2010 for me and my son's AOS. For my son his name was mentioned as Sean Mathew Nathan in both receipts but his complete first name is Sean Mathew Nathaniel. I have written only Sean Mathew Nathan since there is no enough space in the I-485 form plus I didnt attach an extra sheet but I have attach copy of his birth certificate. I tried calling the 1800 number to have it corrected but I could'nt get hold of anyone as the voice promt says our receipt # cannot be found in the system at this time. Anyone has encountered this? Please let me know what to do? Thanks for the help in advance

One way would be to change it at the biometrics appointment, by showing his passport and birth certificate you would prove his REAL name.

Please be aware this is your fault. I'm not trying to make you feel bad but it is VERY important that you do not lie on documents. You might not think this is a lie but you wrote a FAKE name on immigration documents. While it wasn't a malicious act, it was/is still considered fraud. There wasn't enough room so you should have attached an extra sheet, you should have "squished" it in... something. Please be more careful, it will make life very difficult otherwise...

Personally, I would not have used a continuation sheet for something as fundamental as the applicant's name. I would have left that box blank when printing the form and then filled it in by hand.

You did know that you could fill in all or part of the form by hand, yes?

Anyway, I think V&T's idea about trying to change it in the computer at the biometrics appointment is a good idea. I would also prepare a corrected form and present it at the interview. Minor mistakes on immaterial facts can be overlooked, but I wouldn't want any document in the immigrant's file to have the wrong name on it. Given the way that US government bureaucracies work, I just see too much opportunity for this to come back and bite you repeatedly in the future.

12/15/2009 - K1 Visa Interview - APPROVED!

12/29/2009 - Married in Oakland, CA!

08/18/2010 - AOS Interview - APPROVED!

05/01/2013 - Removal of Conditions - APPROVED!

Thanks Jim and V&T for your comment. I tried changing his name during our biometrics but the guy told me to call the NVC number and request for a change in his name. I called the number and reported the mistake but the following day I got an email from USCIS telling me that at this point there is nothing they can do about it and I should have his name corrected during our interview if there will be one. Kinda confusing but lets wait and see.

Again thanks for your response... was really helpful
