but according to that Wiki entry, many of them have modified jus soli rule which, according to critics, has contributed to economic inequality, the perpetuation of unfree labour from a helot underclass, and statelessness. T

Funny you mention that. I just saw an article yesterday while browsing the net about the that subject happening in Germany. I kind of just skimmed it. Have no idea where I saw it now.

FWIW, I haven't made that argument.

Ah, ok. However, I think in another thread, you are questioning the current interpretation of the Birthright Citizenship Clause. The "subject to jurisdiction of the U.S." means anyone in this country who is under the jurisdiction of our laws, which means nowadays, that only children born to foreign diplomats are exempt. It used to include Native Americans as well until that was changed. There is long historical precedent for the jus soli rule, and the only way to change it would be to modify the clause of the 14th Amendment, which you even mentioned will not happen.

The scenario you used of tourist babies is really silly. For one, if a woman is visiting most any country and goes into labor, she is going to get medical attention whether she pays for it or not. Second, the mother is on a tourist visa and she must return to her home country with her child. If that child later decides to come and live in the U.S. as an adult, what's the issue? The scrutiny could and should be on who they are issuing tourist visas to. There are several countries where if the applicant is a young, single woman, she will be denied. It's better to look at each applicant on a case by case basis. Also, as far as I understand it, most airlines will not allow a woman who is in her Third Trimester to fly. It would be highly improbable for a woman to apply for tourist visa and time her pregnancy so that she could come over just to give birth. But again, even if someone could do this, they cannot stay here.

There should be mandatory pregnancy tests of all pre-menopausal women applying for a visitor visa. Pregnancy should be an automatic disqualifier, just like being a prostitute or drug dealer is.

That's a bit extreme.

it is rather old fashioned. in this day where many of the world's better off can jump on a plane while 7 months pregnant and 2 months later leave having the most valued prize in the world (american passport) for life is ridiculous. it is why so many countries have changed their laws and it is why the USA should at the very least talk about it. it is the responsible thing to do.

This is funny, I only made it to post number 2 of this thread before laughing. The most valued prize in the world?

You can have mine anytime you want, I would gladly give it up after dealing with USCIS and seeing how screwed up of a Government we have. And yes before you say if you don't like it here leave, that is exactly what I am doing. I served in the Army, I paid taxes, never took anything from government always gave and then USCIS shits all over people. See ya later USA.

And no door wont hit me in the #### on the way out.

Don't forget to renounce your US citizenship on yer way out. ;)

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

No it's not. In fact the tourist visa should be issued to women in the form of a stick. You have to pee on it to activate it. And if your pee has hcg, it auto combusts. It's a low cost strategy to deal with the perfect crime.

and if it's negative ... guess it means the visa is all wet too ...

Oh no! The perfect plan, foiled. I guess we will have to tolerate the ongoing invasion of the pregnant hordes.

Everyone hide, some pregnant chick is about to pop out another Messikan!

if the test was positive ... and the ink ran rendering the document unreadable ... how can dhs let them through legally?
