Hello

I am new here and we are going to start the process of petitioning me for a visa K1, My fiance is worried because she doesnt know if she meets the poverty guidelines, She has been working for the same place for 2 years and she makes 19000 dollars a year, she has no kids, no past marriages, she is only 23, she has only one year tax return because she was studying before and she has 8000 dollars in save and maybe will have more for the time we have the interview. I also dont have past marriages or kids so it will be the two of us. Do you think we will need a co sponsor or we are fine this way.

Thanks

The income requirements for 2 people is just over $18k. If she makes $19k, and can prove it with pay stubs, employment letters, and has a tax return, you should be ok.

As Dodi said your fiance is just over the income guidelines, however I have heard some cases when the sponsor is close to the guidelines and the CO will still request a co-sponsor to be on the safe side, I think it depends on how close to the quidelines you are and the consulate. However, since your fiance has $8000 in savings I would have her include that on her affidavit of support. Although she makes over the requirement, this will help strengthen the affidavit and eliminate the chance of the CO requiring a co-sponsor.

Oh my fiance is in the same situation, she makes like 400 dollars over the income guidelines but she has savings over 10.000 dollars and we are including that in teh affidavit of support! also ask her to see into asking for a raise, I see your fiance has been working there for a while, maybe she can apply for one? my fiance did and hopefully this week we will hear good news and be a bit farther from the poverty guidelines limit!.. I hope everything turns out great for you two!

I'm also in a very similar situation. Last year I only made 18,100 because I was in Ecuador with Patricio for 5 months not working, and the year before I made only 21,000 (at a job that paid less- had I stayed at my job instead of visiting my sweetie I would have made 30,000 last year). This year I've only been working for the last 2 weeks having finally found a job after returning from Ecuador, so I don't exactly have job security and I'm worried about qualifying as a sponsor.

I am lucky enough to have shares in stock currently worth 50,000 that my grandfather started when I was born, so I do have reserve money (which I used when I stayed longer than planned in South America not working), and I have a very consistent work record for the last 8 years (except for the time I was in S.A.), so I think I should qualify but I don't know if I will. Apparently Ecuador has a very difficult consulate too, so I don't want to have anything that will make us a problem. However, we are both young, never married with no kids so I'm hoping we'll get through without problems. I can't really ask anyone to co-sponsor with me so all I can do is hope it works out... :innocent:

I-129F package sent: Jul 7th 2010

Package received at CSC: Jul 9th 2010

NOA1: Jul 16th 2010

NOA2: Nov 30th 2010

Packet 4 letter received: Dec 27th 2010

Medical done: Jan 3rd 2011

Interview: Jan 24th 2011 - APPROVED!!

Passport with K-1 visa received: Jan 29th 2011

POE: Feb 2nd 2011 in Houston, TX - cleared without problems :-)

Married!: May 2nd 2011
