I have read everything a hundred times. I read it all before I posted. But it is really overwhelming when you first start reading it. Also the search never really works for me. I have been searching for the panel physicians list and still not found it.

Yes some of the questions are clearly posted by people who did not read anything and that is annoying.

physicians for the medical for a k-1? i had to go to the consulate site to get those for nessa. pm me if you need help finding such.

perfect example of advice being given without knowing the question.

Cristy, to find a panel physician near you, or civil surgeon, go to THIS page and fill in the City, State, and ZIP code, or the district. It will give you a list of physicians in your area.

Isn't Christy asking about the panel physician and not (un)civil surgeon? That link you provided is a US civil surgeon locator. It's been a while for us, but I recall the panel physician is in the foreign location and used for the physical.

Nice link though, Roi...we did not know about it when we were search for the (un) civil surgeon last year.

Yet those same people...for the most part...are the same ones who come back and complain that the lawyer took too long, or charged WAY too much, caused them delays, blah blah blah.

I downloaded pages and pages of stuff...and yes, I'm sure I've asked a few stupid questions too (well, maybe stupid in someone else's eyes) but at least I read the instructions and the guides before Joel and I started this &*%^$%*# process.

Yup, and I complain about contractors, too. :)

I would never say: hire a BAD lawyer, or hire ANY lawyer. I usually caution to hire one who specializes in family based cases and comes recommended.

BUT,

Karen, and JenT, don't get me wrong, please. I am not against questions. I obviously like answering them. I did not spring from the womb knowing anything about immigration. I met & fell in love with a foreigner, like most of us here and had to figure out how we could live where we wanted to.

There was no visajourney.com then. There was a newsgroup, one that didn't suffer fools too easily and I was on slow dialup half way round the world from home. There was a ton of info there, and a lot of couples used to make their own websites with information. I gathered links & read til my eyes bled. I asked judicious questions and I read a lot. I put two and two together. I applied common sense. I made a list of the forms I'd need, found them and filled them in.. just like you clearly have.

I've invested time and energy into helping people by doing the handholding thing---to a point. If someone is not going to take the resources offered and figure stuff out, well, they DO need a pro (IMO). The vast majority of people here do *just that*. It's that 10-20% or whatever that gets on the nerves and puts the site and the individual members in jeopardy. True, there will always be that contingent, but we're experiencing a new wave of people who are making this process MUCH more complicated than it needs to be.

I'd love to read more *experience* posts than question posts and let people draw their own conclusions. There is not just ONE way to do any of this, but there IS one way that will work best for you. And you. And that guy over there. I'd love to see our experience posts catalogued someway, like they still are on the kamya site. I've tried to get it going with the 'Arriving in America' thread, but few find it and fewer still contribute. I guess it IS easier to just ask the same Qs over and over, but I find the answers getting wronger and wronger.

MANY people over the years have written, hosted and contributed to the FAQ here. People who figured things out and left helpful hints behind. Others have distilled it even more by writing Guides. People who don't want to hire a lawyer so they can 'do it themselves' should absolutely feel compelled to actually 'do it themselves'. A simple thing like writing "I looked at the example forms and am still unsure of where the A# is located. Is it the big read number with a circle around it?" shows that at the least, the poster has looked.

The ones I love are when you say 'read the Guide here' etc say 'of course I read the Guide, I'm not stupid, I just wanted to ask others!'. We're mostly not psychic here, and have no idea of what research someone has already done unless they say so.

I think I'm needed in the garden for a bit. :)

Well said :)

I believe Cristy meant civil surgeon, rather than panel physician, since she already has her K1 and is now married in the U.S., looking to adjust status.

I tried searching for 'Affidavit of Support', and get an error message because it doesn't like the word 'of' being so short. Not to mention, even if you search for 'affadavit support', you get about a billion results, the first 20 which don't cover your question. At that point, you start to figure if you can't find it within 20 minutes of searching, you may as well just bite the bullet and type out the question, because it's only 5 minutes worth of work at most. Not everyone has time to hang out on the forums and read every topic every day, after all.

It doesn't help that people make incredibly vague topic names. I've been redirected in some of my questions to things with a topic name of HELP!!!!, among other things. How was I to know that HELP!!!! was actually another name for 'How to fill out question 5G of form blahblahblah when you have been divorced before in the state of nevada'?', or whatever my question could've been?

While I, of course, agree with the sentiment that people should be responsible for their own process, and be willing to do their own research, these are very important points that seem to have gotten overlooked in the discussion. I think some of us who have been around a while forget that we've read SO many posts with information about all of the processes, so we know these things by heart. For example, I take note of any posts I come across that might be valuable in the future, so I don't have to ask those things when the time comes. I surely know now a lot more about removal of conditions (2 years before it'll happen) than I did about the K1 process two months before I started it. I wouldn't scoff at someone who had just joined VJ before removing conditions and asked a lot of "dumb" questions about the process, obviously I've been at an advantage.

I'd be willing to bet that a majority of VJers, even those in this very thread, have asked a dumb question once or twice themselves. ;)

Panel Physician – A medically trained, licensed and experienced doctor practicing overseas who is appointed by the local U.S. Embassy or Consulate. These medical professionals receive U.S. immigration-focused training in order to provide examinations as required by the CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention) and USCIS (U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services). For medical examinations given in the U.S., please see Civil Surgeon.

as she was asking about a panel physician, the defense rests its case :P

like you even had a case... let alone a leg to stand on.

why don't you go report me again chuckie... that's all you're good at...

given the fact that cristy already has a visa, and is here in the US, the odds were higher of her wanting a civil surgeon rather than a panel physician, since she already had her k-1 physical.

MarilynP actually gave her the information she wanted, so piss off.

Well, I thought mine was qualified enough, shes an Honorary Consul of her home country, a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, as well as the Ohio Bar Association, but appearently that isn't enough, because she informed me to do something I know full well is NOT the right way to get this done. I'm glad I knew of this site because I ran what she said by me and was told to NOT believe her. Otherwise I would've thought she was right... truely scary, as she really could've kept us apart for good with her plan, as well as made us go broke.
