American's understand socialism and hate it without knowing what it is. Most of the world governments are socialist and they do just fine. Socialim =/= communism. socialism =/= closed market. For all craps I see about "support our troops," when I see people whinning about increasing benefits to veterans or military family, I get a bit of bitter taste in my mouth. Its more social capitalism than socialism. Socialism is like Cuba or Venezuela where the government pretty much controls or tries to control the entire economy. In Social capitalism the government may play a role in certain industries for the greater good of the country, but the market is generally free. European economies are primary social capitalism. The US is too, although to a somewhat lesser extent.

Exactly. Americans equate social capitalism to pure socialism and in extreme cases to communism. They think giving poor people some money to get back on their fit is akin to controling all industries, thoughts, etc, etc, etc. Most of Europe and Asian countries are social capitalism. The government controls various industries like power, telecomm, and few other traditional things but they are also free market economies. Thanks Dan, for being sensible and being able to comprehend simple things.

For decades, veterans have complained that finding such records was extremely time consuming and sometimes impossible. And in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, veterans groups assert that the current rules discriminate against tens of thousands of service members — many of them women — who did not serve in combat roles but nevertheless suffered traumatic experiences.

Under the new rule, which applies to veterans of all wars, the department will grant compensation to those with P.T.S.D. if they can simply show that they served in a war zone and in a job consistent with the events that they say caused their conditions. They would not have to prove, for instance, that they came under fire, served in a front-line unit or saw a friend killed.

The new rule would also allow compensation for service members who had good reason to fear traumatic events, known as stressors, even if they did not actually experience them.

Anyone who heard a shot fired or bomb explode could claim PTSD status. There could be a lot of claims going back decades.
