My wife had changed her name during our marriage, what government facility do I inform of this change and can I proceed with the AOS?

Name changes are governed by state law and there are 50 different versions.... find out how your state does it. google is your friend for this answer

YMMV

Yes, you can proceed with AOS, the marriage certificate is a legal proof of name change.

Use your wife's married name in the forms. Put down her maiden name where the forms ask for "other names" used.

And then you pretty much have to go around informing everyone that has her name to change it.

I am not even done with changing my name on everything yet. Still have Social security, credit card, phone, etc to do.

But those can wait. AOS first.

You want a direct answer on an immigration site about name change, but you do not give people any information to help you find it.... like where you live....

I gave you a link to the CA DMV which describes the TRUE NAME CHANGE document... you fill it out show them a copy of your marriage certificate and you can change your DL or get a state ID

So the G-325A for example where it says family name in the first line put her new last name?

ok thats for DL or ID. Since she hasn't applied for either and we're barely doing our AOS she doesn't need this change. What she needs is to inform the US government on her name change. That's it. I'm not sure if I'm suppose to tell immigration or USCIS.

Yup. All I had to do was complete all the forms with my married name and now that is how USCIS knows me.

I just sent along the copy of marriage certificate (had to anyway), which has my "name after marriage" as my husband's last name.

All USCIS correspondence since we filed AOS has been addressed to me with my new name. It was easy peasy.

Everyone else (DMV, bank, insurance companies) were a lot more of a hassle to deal with, actually!

Oh and the marriage certificate is also what I used to prove that I am me when I went to my biometrics appointment with my Driver's license that still had my maiden name at the time.

Hi...I live in Calif. My wife changed her name when we got married. She went through AOS process and we have her green card with no RFE.

When you complete the paper work, just use her married name, and submit a certified copy of your marriage certificate. She has also received a new philippine passport with her married name and it was with a copy of her marriage certificate that allowed her to complete the process with her married name.

Really pretty simple as far as name change is concerned.

LOVE of a LIFETIME

ok another question the instructions for the I-485 says that my wife needs a vaccination supplement. Would this be the DS-3025 or she absolutely needs to see a civil surgeon. The instructions make it seem like all she needs is the DS-3025. She's been in the USA a little more than 2 months only.
