Hey, Stupid. You can no more dismiss global warning by looking at a day's freesing weather as much you can approve it looking at a day's head. You can't even look a whole years record and speak one way or another. You gotta look at the trend over a significant period. And it's becomes apparent that the glaciers are melting and modern human are fking up the planet at a faster rate than did our ancestors.

New York needs to ditch the business attire. Japan has done that in the past when it gets crummy hot. They say no more tie and jacket. Just the shirt will be fine.

I've lived in heat waves, cold fronts, snow, no snow, dry and humid. The heat that the north-east is dealing with is nothing other than average weather by south Texas standards. We have the highest heat index in the country here in Houston today. As such, it doesn't seem that bad at all. It's a normal day. Very few people even wear shorts here.

But numbers are misleading. Going outside at 3PM in TX for a 20 minute walk to the grocery store will feel hot. But the relief comes early and often in the form of cold grocery store and cold home. I'll be sleeping fine tonight. I'll be cooking dinner on the stove with no concern.

But when you're in a heatwave with no A/C, it's all the other stuff aside from temp numbers that gets you. Wind speed plays a huge role. The complete and utter lack of sleep or at the very least, GOOD sleep takes it's toll on you. People get really grumpy after a few days of no sleep. Cooking at home is out of the question. It's either BBQ or cold cuts.

I completely understand the arguments of southerners not feeling bad about heat in the north and northerners not feeling bad about cold in the south. It's what you're used to and how your home/car/job is set up to handle. Central A/C is common everywhere here. Cars all have A/C. Jobs too for the most part (outdoor jobs, some warehouse jobs being the exceptions). Cold outside here is defined as when it's colder outside than it is inside.

Conversely, if you have a garage for your car. And a good natural gas furnace or wood stove, you're not going to feel the effects of cold winters like somebody with baseboard heat and a frozen windowed cold car parked in the snow. It's considered hot outside in the north when it's hotter outside than it is inside.

It's July! It's hot! That's what happens here. How soon people forget..... The last two summers here were chilly for this part. Very few hot days. I live in coastal MD and the last 2 years were NOT normal. This July is hot. That is normal. It happens. And it will probably be hot in august and we will have a few hot days in september Then in october it will get cold. My prediction is fall will get here on Sept. 29th and give way to winter on Oct. 3rd. It's the mid-atlantic. Thats our weather---has always been. BTW, I think spring was here for a week the end of may this year. I'm 42 and I remember going to school (in the D.C. area)in the 70,s through mid-80's decades. School was out by the first week of june and started back up after labor day. It was common for us to get sent home early in May and sept due to the heat. Usually as many early departurs in those month's as snow delays in jan./ feb.

Who's whining? We drove up to Johnson Brook in the mountains and went swimming. (Locally known as "Bolton Potholes" I think it even comes up on Google) The water is very cold but when it is up near 100 that cold mountain water feels great. Spent the day sunbathing and alternating dips in natural pools/small waterfalls. The boys were "cliff jumping" into a deep pool. Really sucks, eh?. It is now 78 and we have the fan on. The problem with New York is not that it is hot, the problem with New York is that Johnson Brook is in Vermont.

I was living in Dallas in 1980 and built a swingset/fortress for my oldest son, never missed a day working on it. I even made him a rubber band gatling gun to defend his fortress tower! Were you what...about 3 then?

And I don't whine when we get 32" of snow in one night either...how 'bout you? I go skiing.

I've never known the early part of the summer to be as hot as August for so long (and even in June!).

They predict cooler temperatures in the coming days (so far it's still hot & humid beyond belief).
