Yes I do have a Japanese drivers license and it's good for a year in Hawaii BUT I wanted to get the Hawaii's drivers license as soon as I get SSN because I can use it as my ID

You live in Illinois? if so then he can use his Japanese drivers license for 90 days...so he should start study for Illinois drivers license...I think he need to take both Written and Road tests.

oh no, they DON'T recognize the international license!? hmmm...he has used it here before, and is using it now. haha. so far he has not been pulled over!!!!

at least he has 90 days!!! safe!! i think he carries the japanese one with him too. i will make sure he does!

he will have to get ready to get a usa one soon now. i wish you didn't have to take another test if you already had one, ね？

Hi everyone ! I have few POE questions, my POE will be next month, JFK.

Hubby is meeting me there, however i would like to know what to expect, what exactly needs to be done there.So what kind of questions do they ask ? Can hubby stay with me while i deal with the Immigration? What other papers do i need to give them, aside from the sealed big envelope? What are they supposed to give me, stamp in my passport, and what papers are they returning to me? I will also have my dog with me as carry on baggage , nobody will take it from my eyes while i am dealing with Immigration right? I am nervous and anxious about this trip so i am asking all this so i won't stress so much.

i was not the one who went through it, but it's not all that hard i think.

you wait in line, they take your envelope, customs form, and passport (that's all?)

then you wait in line.

i think you get fingerprinted?

and they ask you a few questions?

then eventually you get to move on.

your hubby cannot meet you until you are out of all the security and customs. he will have to meet you where you get the baggage.

i don't know how they handle animals, but i am sure they won't take it too far away at any time.

congrats to all you guys who rec'd your GCs and SSNs. we're making incremental progress at best. called up the SS office last friday and actually talked to a human who said that my wife's SSN had been approved and mailed out and to look for it in the coming 2 weeks. so we'll keep our eyes out for that. our GC status says that the os551a has been approved as of last week - so now it'll either be the GC directly in the mail, OR a 2nd welcome letter and then the GC? dont know. as long as we get our SS, that's all that really matters (so that my wife can finally get PAID!!!!).

oh yea, we're dealing w/ f******n bed bugs and a broken toilet - just doesnt get any better than this, no?

The SSN should show up any moment then now, since she's clearly in the system! Did you go to the SS-office at any time to apply for one? I don't remember

thanks! and they didnt screw up her name or any other details either. as for the SS, we applied for it ~ 3 weeks ago now. they said that they needed to verify her status and then would issue her the card. when we called last friday, they said she had been issued a card and that it was in the mail. so i'm gonna give it till the EOW till that shows up. honestly i could have waited for the GC; its the SS that we need to get her paycheck! (her company's holding her pay so that they can take out taxes; so we're anxiously awaiting the SS, needless to say!).

yea, bed bugs f*****n blow. we did get our toilet fixed today. we've gotten our apt sprayed twice now and so we think that we've now found out where the bugs are coming from. so hopefully we'll get everything sorted out by EOW...

I'm glad the rest is sorting itself out aswell!
