Yep. The noise doesn't even subside when the game has stopped because a player is lying on the ground, faking injury.

By all means blow it before and after the games, or in your home, or in the town square.

But please do not do it during the game in the stadium. It is annoying and distracting.

It's not as annoying as it is made out to be. People are complaining because it's cool to complain about this. Anyone who has ever loved the beautiful game knows, there are a lot of noise involved both crowd and instrumental. If it's such a problem, go watch golf or --laughs hysterically-- go watch baseball. And watch yourself fall asleep.

The 'people' that I pay attention to, for 'those complaining' -

are the players themselves.

There's been enough of the players complaining about this.

Which 'people' do you want to ask ?

as for the 'coolness factor' - sorry, I love futbol much, and this 'evolution of vuvuzela inclusion' actually has MEDICAL reasons for exclusion.

is it cool to lose yer hearing, in the stadium ?

is it cool to receive airborne germs from high-velocity noise makers ?

If this was 'team chanting' or 'fan singing' - I'd have no issue with it, at all - I expect to hear that, and I can't hear that at FIFA 2010 South Africa.

As a South African I take offence at calling us Bastards. The vuvuzela is part of our tradition and what you have not taken into consideration is how this seemingly worthless piece of plastic has united a nation and broken down all social, race and gender barriers. It may sound a little odd but it has helped heal a country don't knock it.

Ya know - that's GREAT ! I'm all for unity across racial/tribal lines - but lets be real, ya? FIFA in South Africa is about money - if you are included in that food chain (as many South Africans are) then it makes a lot of sense to sell as many vuvuzelas as possible - but that 'sales percentage' of 'the gross' is minimal, when compared to receiving monies for hotels, great food, entertainment, private carriage, and the like - from not only the players and teams, but the FANS coming in to watch each match. I'll even hazard a guess - less than 1/2 of 1 percent of the 'total gross' for receipts centered around the FIFA World Cup 2010, in SA, can be tagged for 'vuvuzela sales'.

Can you be happy, with giving up that 1/2 of 1 percent ? How would that affect yer personal income stream ?

Unfortunately for many, though - the sound level, measured in decibels, is RUINING the experience for the players and the spectators and the television audience.

If yer 'boots on the ground' in JBurg, could you please start new campaign to ban the blowing of vuvuzelas, only to blow between matches, and for 2 minutes (only) after a goal is made?

Thanks in advance!!

I love the vuvuzelas and wouldn't want them off the stadia at all. If anything, add more. It's part of the atmosphere of South African games. If you're whinning now about this, wait 'till '14's WC in Brasil.

I think you are not getting the full picture, The Hosting of the world cup is an honour I agree but if you think that it will vaguely bring in lasting revenue you are sorely mistaken, History will repeat itself in South Africa. Greece remember that little financial trouble last month? Where did that come from? Ya the Olympic games, Germany is going througfh a little rough spot now Why? The 2006 Soccer world cup. We havew already been told that the taxpayers are going to be footing the bill for the upkeep of the stadiums and the initial cost of building the new ones.

The Olympics probably costs more than the World Cup. For Olympics, many stadia have to be built for a specific sports. It doesn't get used for anything else. But football stadia are used for rugby, American football, concerts, conventions, etc. Not to mention World Cup is more famous and more advertized on than the Olympics. Maybe that's why it had a big dent of Greek finance. But Olympics was hardly the only reason for Greek woe. Decades of unsound monetary policies combined with a rosy view of Euro led to the collapse.

And what Germany went through was due to global recession. Every country felt the bite of this snake. Don't blame it on World Cup. The revenue and the jobs generated due to World Cup far outweighs the cost of hosting the Games.

Sports tourism is a $600 billion dollar industry in the world. It's hardly a money losing venture for a hosting country.

Lasting Revenue ?

Oh no - it's 'seasonal sales' model - never 'lasting revenue' model.

Also, comparing Olympic Games 'money model' with SA FIFA 2010 'money model' can never be consistent - is not same 'advertiser revenue', is not same 'broadcast rights revenue' and certainly is NEVER the same 'build the venue' sinkhole, when comparing the two types of events.

IMO, is MORE money with FIFA than the Olympics. The vuvuzelas are a problem, and IMO, are directly reflecting the revenue stream of the advertisers of FIFA.
