Welcome Glory

I would suggest that you check out the marraige requirements at the US Embassy Website in Algeria.

My husband - who is Algerian - we got married in Tunisia back in 2004. I had checked on the US Embassy in Tunisia website and called them for their requirements for marriage - These were some of the items I had to bring with me - just to give you an idea - as every Countries requirements are different - 3 certified copies of my birth certificate - which could not be more than 1 month old which had to be translated as well as and Affidavit of Elligibility to Marry. Also we had to make arrangements with a doctor for our blood tests.

Best wishes to you :star:

Welcome to VJ. I pop in and out from time to time. My husband got to the USA in December 2005. I dunno if it's different in Algeria than it is in Jordan but I had to have notarized copies of my first marriage certificate and of my divorce certificate. We got my "eligible to marry" paper in Jordan at the embassy. I also had my birth certificate (notarized), passport, drivers license, ssn, typical stuff needed in the USA for stuff like that. I think that was it. Good luck on your journey. You've come to the right forum. These ppl are awesome!

Welcome to VJ! As others have shown you the wiki and guidelines will help you. Also you might want to speak to members currently going through the process in Algeria. Several Algerian couples have married in Tunisia and I can tell you that to marry in Tunis you'll need :

At least one (though I'd bring up to 3) certified (issued from the Bureau of Vital Statistics) birth certificates

US Passport valid for at least 6 months

Divorce certificates from any previous marriages (It might be useful to attach the original marriage certificate but I was never asked for that)

Drivers license and social I took but they never really asked to see those.

You'll go to the US Embassy in La Marsa (les burges du lac) Tunis and no appointment is needed. Walk in and show them all those documents. Your fiance will need to show his identity as well (passport, national ID card, birth certificate ) Though I'm not sure on exactly which documents they would require for an Algerian, so you may want to email them and ask about that.

Then you'll do the I swear I'm single and free, blah blah and you'll receive the Affidavit of Eligibility to Marry. The cost is around 25 USD. Take that and all of your other documents to the baladyia (municipal) The fee for his marriage service can range from 50 dinar to 150 dinar depending on what area of Tunisia you have this done.

Blood tests can be done or if you know someone (want to pay) you can have a sign off that you did it, even if you didn't. But if you do them you can set them up with any clinic or hospital. Fees range from free to 30 dinar - Have your fiance inquire about that as well.

For translation needs there is a great guy on rue de Grece Tunis (near the train station ) off of Avenue Habib Bourgabia named Mohsen Beldi and he's very reasonably priced and usually has same day or next day turn over.

If you need any other information about the possibility of marrying in Tunis, please let me know and I'll be glad to help.
