My mom & neighbors love my new wife

After divorcing I moved back into a large separate apartment in my mom's house.

She is 84 and I sometimes worry about her being totally alone while I'm at work,

but she is very strong and self-reliant and doesn't have any major health issues.

I've always had good relations with our oldest neighbors but since my wife appeared

they have been much friendlier and closer. We have an Italian couple that has lived

next to us for almost 50 years and I knew all their children. Their best friend is a

widowed Korean lady who was married to an Italian-American during the Korean war.

The wife sometimes brings food to my mom, not because she thinks she can't afford

food or is starving but because she's a good Christian lady and it makes her "feel good."

She treasures the neatly typed thank-you notes my mom gives her.

Last night we were invited for a chat at our neighbors home and she told me how

she came to America. Her mom was US born but her grandfather wanted to move

back to Italy and he did with his family. Her mom got her a US passport in Rome

after WWII and sent her to live in our neighborhood with her aunt who was still

living there. You can imagine a 16 year old girl coming on a week-long sea voyage

all alone from Italy in the year 1950, not speaking much English.

She started working in the garment industry in the Bronx almost immediately, but

soon grew homesick. Her aunt, seeing her crying in the basement said that if she

didn't stop this, she would pay for her passage back to Italy because she couldn't

deal with this as America wasn't such a bad place.

From then on she stopped feeling sorry for herself, met her husband, got married

and had 3 kids. They are 2 of the nicest people I have ever met and because my

wife came here I am closer to them, which is something not likely to have happened

if I stayed single.

A guy living alone even if he is liked by neighbors is

treated differently from someone who is happily married.

People who are unhappily married are avoided by all.

My neighbors will provide statements for her AOS when

we are called for the interview.

I don't need any advice on this one, just happy to share.

A guy living alone even if he is liked by neighbors is

treated differently from someone who is happily married.

I can relate to that! I moved back to the "old neighborhood" 5 years ago. We live a block from my folks now who are in their 80's. Now that the weather is better Doan and I are outside working in the flower gardens every day and the neighbors have suddenly become VERY friendly. Most of them are older and they stop over and talk to Doan while I am working. Always comlimenting on all the work we have done and how beautiful it looks.

I have to admit that I was not to up on doing things around the house for a while because I was lonely and a bit sad to be quite honest. But I have such a new and happy outlook now that we are together, like getting a new lease on life. I've never been so happy and it sure seems to be noticed by everyone and does have an affect on the way others see me now too.

I talked to a neighbor the other night that has not spoken to me in 5 years. I found out that his wife has been stopping over regularly to talk to Doan during the day! I love it. Happiness does seem to bring things together and through sharing our hapiness with others we make the world just a little better.

We also go to my parents every day to visit and have dinner together. My mom was going to teach Doan to cook but it seems that Doan has taught my mom  We now eat Vietnamese foods about 80% and my folks seem to love it too!

This was my feeling exactly. Even if I had a nice place to live and the expenses were low, it was not a home without a loving wife.

The way others perceive me (neighbors and co-workers alike) has also changed for the better.

I just got off the phone and was pleasantly surprised to hear that our neighbors

took my wife to get her hair done (they go to a local lady who charges less than

salons).

She was used to going to her salon in BKK maybe 3 times a day, but was taken

aback by the US prices for the same services. It didn't matter if I was paying for it,

she had to find somewhere that was reasonable.

Whatever they do with her hair, she is still beautiful to me.star_smile.gif

How cute! I am sure she will love to get out of the house and do something different (I can relate being home all day!).

It is wonderful to read stories like yours. I too am very fortunate as the in-laws like me a lot and we do a lot of stuff together, also with his parents'friends. Matt's mom took me out for dinner for my b-day on Sunday and gave me a very pretty gym outfit that I absolutely loved. Also we are taking Matt's dad to a baseball game next Tuesday as he had his b-day the same day I did :star:

It's amazing to get home to your wife/husband I think and knowing that we are going through this exhausting immigration process together makes me even more hopeful that we will be together through thick and thin!

Yes it makes it all worthwhile. That doesn't denigrate American women either because each is an individual.

There is good and bad, both foreign and domestic.

My first wife was Japanese and wouldn't give me spit, let alone the basics that a stay-at-home mom can

be expected to do.

I don't ask for the world and I never have to tell my wife what her job is. She's had 3 operations

(the last one this Tuesday, a bunionectomy) in 3 months and never complained. She irons my

clothes, keeps the house neater than I would ever do and I have a nice meal waiting for me

when I come home (and that's even if she had foot surgery!.

I bring home movies from the library (I DO ask her for her preferences)

and we sit together watching them in the evenings and you can't beat that.good.gif

The last 3 movies were real hodgepodge:

"It Happened One Night" (Frank Capra) with Clark Gable & Claudette Colbert

A sex comedy (forgot the name) featuring Hong Kong businessmen going to Korea to get laid.

and last but not least, Bridgit Jones-The Edge Of Reason

This is so sweet to read. I'm really happy for you both. Thanks for sharing. luv.gif

You're welcome; this morning my wife said that my mom heard her say "foot" and thought she said "food."

My wife is recovering from a second "bunionectomy" in 2 months.

She told me she is lucky to have my mom because she can improve her English.

She and I have our own "common language" and can understand each other perfectly,

but my mom is 84 and can't do the mental gymnastics to interpret when my wife mispronounces a word.

That way she will know when she makes a mistake every time and be able to correct it, because

my mom only understands what she can hear.
