USCIS and RFE's

How exactly does the case status dashboard thing work at the USCIS website, would it go through every step or possibly skip over some? It kinda feels like something they just slapped together though.

Like say I'm in initial review what are the chances of getting an RFE do they usually send those out immediately if they see a possible mistake or they could send one out at any time during the process between NOA1 and NOA2.

I'm pretty sure I did everything right, but seeing all the silly things that people have gotten rfe for it does make me slightly weary. I'm just anxious to get past this phase and hope they don't bug me for more things lol and that everything I sent would be what they needed/how they wanted it.

Here's a check list of what I had sent with my I-130 just for reference to how complete I tried to make it.

-I-130 Cover Letter signed/dated

-A notice of photocopies document letter signed/dated

-Form I-130

-Form G-325A (Petitioner)

-Form G325A (Beneficiary)

-Marriage Certificate (Certified Copy)

-Birth Certificate of (Petitioner) (Certified Copy)

-Passport (Petitioner) (Scanned copy of information page)

-One Color Passport Photo (Petitioner)

-One Color Passport Photo (Beneficiary)

-One Cashiers Check (In Payment of: $355 Application Fee)

Bona Fides

-Phone Bills

-Internet Correspondence – Skype

-Bank Account Statements

-Airplane Reservations/ Tickets

-Hotel Invoices

-Receipts

-Mail Correspondence – Cards/Letters

-Stack of Photographs taken from 2007-2009

I would like to hear anyones thoughts on the matter if possible as well as the above questions, thanks.

My understanding is that once you get the NOA1, your file gets put away for couple of months. While they process the rest.

Once they start on your file, they send out RFE, if one needs to be sent out, soon enough. The actuall processing of the file probably doesn't take more than couple of days or a week or two. It's just how soon they start on your file. This is how imagine it is. I could be wrong.

Agree that your file may gather dust for a couple of months (or 3 or 4). Best of luck ....

Who knows what really goes on at USCIS but this explanation sounds reasonable to me.

the 'online status web portal' is not specifically designed for I-130 petitions - it shows status on ALL petition types.

The portal can be confusing for an I-130 petitioner, you betcha.

You want to look out for 'post decision activity' - this is sign it was approved and sent on to NVC.
