Hi everybody. Hope you all are having a great week end. I'm working as usual, Sunday too.

For people who call Morocco, how much are you paying to call a cell phone (my husband doesn't do cyber anymore and I've been spending a fortune on calls). My cell phone company wants a credit card ### and they charge me .31c a minute. By the time i get my credit card bill - it's a lot. I've seen .26 c a minute. Can't do Vonage - he doesn't have a computer. So, how do you girls manage? Last time me and my hubby chatted it was June and just for 1 hour about him getting ready for the interview, but it seems that we're stuck one in Morocco and another here for a while.

Thanks in advance or should i say 'shukran'? :D

I use IDT globalphone (www.idtglobalphone.com - i think) and it's 18cents/min to any line in Morocco. It's the best rate I've found. It's very easy to use and pretty reliable. Let me know if you need any more info on it.

I called Morocco from Skype but to be honest it didn't last very long for 10 dollars. It's a little better than a phone card but not much. I was hoping it would ladt the 10 hours it said in the advertisement but it probably lasted about 30 minutes so it wasn't too good.

It seems like IDT is the way to go... I haven't used it but I know others always reccomend it.

Good luck,

Sarah

I call my husband in Morocco on skype. Its about 27 cents a minute. Some times they have bonus minutes with your purchase so its even cheaper. And its pretty reliable.

Thank you Nora. Either I've spent too much time at the computer or that link doesn't work - I tried searching for it - didn't work anyway. Is that a phone card company? If it is, i've seen it before and didn't like their rates. I don't really like phone cards - they are the worst thing ever. You pay money and never know what you'll get.

Thanks anyway. If you find the link, could you send it to me please?

My husband is in Senegal. I have found that a calling card is the cheapest and easiest way. Not sure about where you are calling to. The card I use in on www.calllingcard.com. There are tons of rates and it is easy and fast. Try it.

I don't understand why you can't do vonage... if you're in the US then you could get it to call him over there and it might save a little although it appears not much if you're only paying $.31 right now...

Morocco 212 $0.25

Morocco (Cellular & Premium) 2126-27, 21210-11, 21260-79, 21292 $0.35

Morocco - Casablanca 21222 $0.24

Morocco - Rabat 21237 $0.24

I pretty sure a phone card is the best way to go. My husband uses Magic or Dream africa to call his family in Morocco.

I would only use my cell phone since I didn't have a home line. I liked http://www.pingo.com/ and http://www.gorillamobile.com/. I also used http://www.tel3advantage.com/default.aspx on occasion. I agree with the phone cards. There are always hidden fees

http://www.idt.net/personal/intl/ is the link for IDT... It's not so much a "calling card" as a calling plan. I charge my credit card in $50 increments. You can call from any phone... you dial their toll free access number, enter an acct number when prompted, then an access code, they tell you how much credit you have, then you dial the number you want. It's easy and I can call from my cellphone, landline, payphone, anyone's phone. Said and I talk 2 or 3 (sometimes more) times a day and I pay abt $150-$200/month. Sometimes we only talk 4 or 5 min, sometimes 30-45 min. It averages a little over 5 min per dollar. As I said before, it's only 18cents/min. I've been happy w/ it and prefer it to the cards I had gotten before that ranged from 30-50cents/min. Good luck.... oh yea, there's no commitment length of time on IDT, you just use what you've got... and their customer service was great the one time I needed it. And you can print your call log from their website so it's great for record keeping/proof for immigration

I don't know what area you are in but in my area we have a service called Optimum Voice, which is a phone/internet service offered by the cable company. The plan is 500 minutes per month for an extra 20 on your regular phone bill - and if you want 1000 minutes 40 a month. They have assured me that it will work with a Spanish Cell phone, but I'm not sure about other countries. Maybe you want to try your long distance provider?

my long distance provider (bellsouth) charges $2.97/min I believe.... not so great - there are some better rates to other countries, but Morocco was not one of them.:no:
