Hello, I have just registered to this site today and wanted to ask the experts a few questions. I'm in the military, stationed overseas, my wife is Italian and there is a good possibility that I will be coming back to the US in a few years. What should I start doing from now? While still overseas? Any directions would be appreciated. Mike.

You probably would want to look into a DCF for your wifes visa. You may want to visit the embassy website for Italy (I will take it you are stationed there) to get an idea what they want.

The guide above can give you a place to start.

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

The visa you want is a CR1, which takes about a year to get approved. If you look under the guides tab at the top you will find most of the basic information.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Thanks for the replies, I'm checking this out.

Yes, Direct Consular Filing in Italy if you are both residing there at the time. Since you will have been married more than two years, it will be the IR1 visa, not the CR1. The difference is the ten year green card upon arrival instead of two year.
