Hi guys!

I was looking over the government website for preparing for the interview...

This is what it says:

The applicant and each family member who will accompany the applicant to the United States will need to obtain the following original documents or certified copies of the documents from an appropriate authority (the issuing entity).

* Birth Certificate

* Court and Prison Records

* Deportation Documentation

* Marriage Certificate

* Marriage Termination Documentation

* Military Records

* Photocopy of Valid Passport Biographic Data Page

* Police Certificate(s)

All documents that pertain to the applicant’s petition are required, even if they were previously submitted to the CIS with the applicant’s petition.

The embassy will have this already from the NVC right? We don't have to obtain this again? Just bring copies of all packets plus additional proof in case they ask right??

THANKS!

They can ask to see the original of any document sent with the petition, like birth certificates, divorce decrees, etc. If possible, you should have the original documents in case they ask to see them. You should also have a copy of each original document. If they DO happen to ask to see an original document then they'll usually return it if you have a copy they can keep.

Except for forms that require a signature, you shouldn't have sent ANY original documents with the petition. You should have sent photocopies of them.

The two most important documents that you should have the originals from the USC are the Birth Certificate and the Divorce Decrees (if it applies).

Do not expect the Embassy to go and look for an original of any document.

Thw two most important ORIGINAL signatures you need from the USC are the Letter of Intent and the I-134 Affidavit.

Good luck.

While I suppose the consulate could ask to see any original document, it is NOT the job of the consulate to re-adjudicate the petition. If there was an issue with any documents submitted to the USCIS from the USC, then the USCIS should have resolved it via an RFE and NOT have the consulate do it. The consulate can and will ask for originals from the alien applicant

Hey Emma

P4 will list what (if any) documents need to be provided at the Consulate. There should be a checklist with letter codes. NVC will send the file with the originals to the Consulate. I'm assuming you submitted all the originals with the DS-230.

As for the Consulate's requirements, make sure you're not reading the instructions for DCF.
