No W-2 for I-864

I am still putting our AoS package together and I can't seem to find my husband's W-2s. Can I send the tax papers without it? Or should I call IRS and request a Tax transcript?

I've seen that. The problem is that our taxes were amended and I was told that amendments will not show on a transcript.

The answer is still there:

If you provide a photocopy of your tax return(s), you must include a copy of each and every Form W-2 and Form 1099 that relates to your return(s). Do not include copies of these Forms if you provide an IRS transcript of your return(s) rather than a photocopy.

I understand that part. What I meant is that there is an option to provide an IRS transcript. My issue with this is that our taxes were amended because we were told that my husband should file Single. They were amended to Filing jointly. I'm wondering if that will be an issue.

Or, if you prefer, is there any way to get a copy of a W-2? I googled this issue and didn't have much success.

Just want to add that the numbers from the first tax return and the amended one are the same. I did not work. However, we did receive a bigger return and of course, the filing status is not the same. I will be using our tax returns as proof of bona fide marriage, so I'm worried that the discrepancies between the returns and the transcript will cause a problem (I was told that the transcript will show the original info, but will not show the filing status change. )

Seems to be the same thing as a Tax Transcript, except that it also comes with W-2... and costs $57.

If I'm wrong, please correct me.

Or you could just request a "tax account transcript" which shows all adjustments made since the original return was filed - and it's free. That, along with the transcript of the original return should be enough.

The request form is here, same one you use for requesting a tax transcript except you mark item B for question 6.

I found this information, which is very clear, on the IRS page for requesting transcripts:

I'm no where near the sending the i-864 package. But I'm putting everything in a file folder so when it comes time for me to send this ishes, I can go bam! bam! bam! Done. I'm hoping it will be this easy. But one thing I learned is that "tax account transcript" will show you everything on your tax account. A tax account is basically unique to each entity. In most cases to an SSN. So if you request an account transcript for your SSN for a particular year, you should see everything on that transcript and it will suffice.

As I understand, what costs 57 dollars are literally copies of your tax return. A transcript is just that, a transcript. Hope I cleared a few things up for your rather than confuse you.

Thank you for the info guys.

In my freak out, I totally missed the Obvious Solution to my problem (of having lost W-2s). My husband is simply going to ask his boss if he can issue him a copy of the missing W-2s. From what I've read, it is totally doable. If for some reason he cannot do that, we will use Tax Transcripts (or account transcript) for I-864 and the actual Tax Papers for proof of bonafide relationship.

Last update on this matter, in case anyone is reading this and has the same problem.

The employer totally can give you a copy of your W-2s. We just got a copy of the last 3 years.
