I went to my interview today and, after all was said and done, the officer rescheduled me until May 12,two weeks after I will have completed my five years in the United States. Although, there have been exceptions with other Visa Journals members taking the test before completing their 3 or 5 years the officer decided not to do this with me. Needless to say, he was very nice, polite and courteous with me. Today, all was not lost, I was able to relax my nerves and feel that I won't be as nervous when I go back for my interview and part of the reason being that, after he went over all my paper work, he told me that everything was in order and that nothing was missing. I hope that my journal is of some help and comfort to some of you. Till next time, take care and God bless you all.

Well that's unusual. Normally they let you do the interview before the full time is completed and they just schedule the oath for after that date. Wonder why he decided to ask you to come back - was he a new officer?

Now you got me worried...he did look kind of young. He knew the date was approaching because he asked me to only give him the green card only. I know for a fact that they always ask for both, a green card and pass port. I did comment to him that other people had taken the test before the time required and that they had to wait for the oath; he said that it was not possible. If anyone out there had the same thing happen to them, please let me know ASAP.

For that very reason I believe it's just silly to file the very first day possible. I'm eligible yo file on June 14 and I'll probably file some time in July.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

I didn't want you to worry - I am just thinking that you got a relatively inexperienced IO who chose to wait on your application instead of going ahead with interview and scheduling your oath for a date on or after your GC anniversary as an experienced IO would do. Nothing to worry about :-)

As well, from what I remember, the ones who have been interviewed before their 3 or 5 year eligibility date were generally less than a week prior to their actual qualifying date. Yours sounds like it is several weeks in advance so that may be the difference. If the actual anniversary date is within a few days the interviewing officer can 'hold' the test results and not approve them until the qualifications are met in a few days time, but I doubt they would be able to 'hold' an application for several weeks. That is my guess, anyway. :) Good luck on your new date.
