I mailed my AOS packet yesterday and just got a notification that it has been received and signed for by the receptionist in Chicago.

Yes there is a receipt number on the NOAs, and you can track it online. However is is very common that they don't update it so don't go crazy if you don't see any updates. I hardly got any, and I was always so worried as it turned out for nothing.

laf66 I heared that you can go anytime to the local office where you will do the biometrics. You can go before your appointment and they will let you do it and you may save more time by that.

Does it really help to go early for walk-in biometrics or can you do it any time of day? And does anybody know if you need an info pass appointment? Or can you just show the biometrics appt letter and ask if you can do it early?

Just bring the letter with you, along with your ID. You don't need to schedule info pass for a walk-in. And I have heard people say to go earlier is better, but I went at 12:30pm and I was in and out within 20 minutes. No waiting around. I guess it depends on the office you're sent to, and how much traffic they see on a daily basis.

hmmmmm, thanks for letting me know. Ive only been to the Buffalo office once and it wasn't very busy at all.

I just had my walk-in Biometrics done at the Buffalo office.

The lady at first told me that they don't do walk-ins anymore. She said they will just look at my appointment letter and see that I didn't show up for the scheduled appointment and my application will be voided. Then she almost immediately said "I'd be more than happy to do it for you today, but you'll have to wait until I've gotten through the people with appointments". After about 15 mins she called me over and took the fingerprints, signature and photo.

So, anybody who has gone through this before; should I call USCIS and let them know that I already did my Biometrics early? Or is it all somehow linked and they will be notified that I did it? My notice of appointment letter was stamped and signed at the time of the biometrics and everything but I don't want to get voided. Any ideas?
