Dear All,

My Wife was interviewewd for CR-1 Visa in Addis Ababa Ethiopia and was not approved.

The Visa Officer said that phone bill did not show her number called.

This was due to the fact that I used Phone cards to make phone calls to her as they are dramatically cheaper.

The vias officer said that he will return the case to USA for revocation.

Please help. I want to know what to do.

Thanks.

At this point, you wait a few months until USCIS contacts you. In the meantime gather more evidence of relationship and get a detailed report of the questions and answers during the interview. You'll have an opportunity in 4 to 6 months to try to convince USCIS to reaffirm the petition approval.

It's too bad that you didn't use the time since August when you joined VJ to get prepared for the interview. There's lots of discussion here about the use of calling cards that don't provide any evidence. I suspect there's more to the denial than that though. Get that detailed report from your spouse.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...

I agree with pushbrk,

There could be other issues leading to the phone card suspicion. Were there other evidence of a bonofide relationship? Photos? Emails? Wedding ceremony? Affidavits of the relationship?

**** filed K3/CR1 concurrently. My wife and I both work/live overseas. The following timeline continues from the approval of the K3 VISA.

Phone cards may be cheaper but will cost you in the long run. Get a service that you can get records showing who you called. Make daily short calls with the service and longer ones using cards.

As push said there's probably other reasons she was denied. Call your senator and get him working on it.

K1 denied, K3/K4, CR-1/CR-2, AOS, ROC, Adoption, US citizenship and dual citizenship

!! ALL PAU!

Do you use Skype? If you both have a computer, that's something to look into. Using that service you can accumulate not only proof of when you talked and for how long, but also the contents of your conversations. The service is free and you have access to these records from your computer. You can print them out and show as proof. Good luck!

Hello, my hubby and I did his K1 through Addis Ababa 3 years ago. Without more details, it seems as though there are other reasons her visa was denied. If the phone cards were the only issue, I think a reasonable CO would have asked for additional proof of regular communication instead of outright denying the application. Unlike the other African embassies, Addis is a pretty reasonable place to interview. But I think you need to get copies of the paperwork that was given to your wife and talk to her more to get a better idea of the whole situation- I doubt the phone cards are the reason for the denial.

Like you, I used phone cards to call my hubby (It's very expensive to call Ethiopia over $1/minute and it's extremely rare that people have internet at home, and at least in 2006/7 internet cafes were not capable running Skype or VOIP). In order to show regular communication throughout our relationship we included the following: (1) a copy of every e-mail we ever sent to each other, (2)I made it a point to occasionally call him using my cell for documentation purposes only, and (3) I sent every phone card I had and the receipts (Yes, this not really evidence, since it doesn't show who I called, but I felt that given the other evidence they would conclude more likely than not I had called my hubby).

In any case, you need more details.
