Wow! I can't say much things about America, since this is only my fourth day here, I still have a lot of things to learn. I am pretty amazed with most of the people, they are friendly and approachable. My first day was spent in New York city and my experience was really great, I had the chance to roamed around Manhattan, Central Park, Times Square, American Museum of Natural History,The Empire State building, The New York City Public Library, I even experienced the first snow fell on my head while walking in Central Park early morning of March 5, 2010.

Now, I'm here in San Francisco, California spending my time with my wife, she already showed me half of the city.

Welcome to the U.S.!

I have a friend who lives in Brooklyn and she said that snow is only good on TV but living with it everyday isn't a happy thing. She sounded lethargic. My husband brought me to the mountain near San Bernardino in December so I could see snow.

We visited NoCal last week and had dinner in San Francisco. We drove on Lombard Street. San Francisco looked pretty congested to me.

You should go to the Avenue of the Giants for hiking or camping. Fun! The coast redwoods can live up to 2, 200 years and they survive floods, fire, and more. Wise giants!

Hahaha. I can't remember my first impression of the U.S because it was 21 years ago ;)

Then again, it's different to go to U.S and come here as a tourist and different to actually live here. As a tourist, there's a tendency to want to go around and spend. As a new migrant, you just want to stay at home save because you'll never really know when your rainy day is. Also, as a tourist, you tend to see U.S through rose colored glasses...

Not to mention, you "convert" everything to your local currency as a tourist. :P

My first impression was when I was 7 years old. My parents and I were going to Chile to meet my family and due to the trip route, we had to stay a day in Miami. Well... I was little but I still remember it. Big buildings, sometimes I thought cars were driving in sky (obviously the huge highways!)Well, it was a family trip and I enjoyed it a lot.

Then, in January 2008 I came back, alone, with J-1 visa, from Buenos Aires to Washington DC took about 10 hours so I was totally tired. I wasn't amazed of anything. I just wanted to have a bed to sleep and let my body rests and get ready for the new adventure of being au pair. And having this job, we au pairs get more closer to the American culture. The family I lived with is wonderful, truly smart, kind, and friendly Americans.

Then in Oct 2008 I met the one who was going to be husband. We traveled to some places in summer time, so I could see not only people but also the landscape scenery of the sand dunes. It was beautiful! Good thing my husband shares with me photography so we always look for those beautiful places. I am getting my own photography book so I can keep a wonderful memory of my impressions of the American land to show someday to my family and my future generations!

This's my 2nd day in San Francisco and I spent most of my time in bed because I have sore throat, running nose & cough. I hope I can recover soon :(

I want to share my experience, is my first time in USA and I have to say, I'm pretty amazed with people, they are very friendly and polite, even in the airport the officers helped me with the luggage. I arrived to LA 4 days ago, nice weather, beautiful beaches, friendly people, multiple cultures, I have so much to learn and know

My first impression was also that Americans are very friendly, and they don't do anything small. it is much different as a tourist than when you live here, but in general my opinion hasn't changed.

We actually kill & eat all foreigners, but that's a State Secret, si man. :)

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
