another one.

use of 'no problem' instead of 'yer welcome'.

If it's from a younger person - I give them the diatribe about how old cranky curmudgeons, like me, react to 'no problem'.

No Problem, you say? OMG - are you telling me there was a potential for a problem to exist? We might have had a problem? Have you been adequately trained to not only handle, but fix, said problems? No ?

Then why, in the name of God, would you insinuate there might have been a problem? Ya, ya did insinuate it, when you flipped from 'yer welcome', into 'no problem'. Stop it. Don't like it? lets talk to the boss..

Oooo...I am SO guilty of this. I say No problem all the time when I should just say "You're welcome." GUILTY AS CHARGED! lol

-Blu-(Really, NO problem, hehehe)

inadequately trained staff in any indian call center.

I've had to call in, over the years, this century, to resolve some IT problem for either my company or a client's company.

IF I run across an inadequately trained call-center staff member, I get irate. I used to foam at the mouth, but then, decided to learn some hindi curse phrases. If it gets to be too much, if I can't remain calm - I'll blow something out like this ... 'Hey - that's fascinating, but it's not helping me at all. Let me ask you a question - do you prefer choots or lunds? '

Usually, the call is disconnected after that question (from the tech support person). But - there was that one time, one lass was telling - 'Oh - I prefer choots. I gave up on lunds about 4 years ago, and let me tell you - its been OH SO SWEETER since then.' Stunned into silence, I then asked her if she thought she could resolve my problem. She said - no - but I've got to leave for lunch, I'm meeting up to munch some choots on my break' We laughed, a lot, about this one..

grrr

ability of Muslim man in Malaysia to divorce one of his wives via text message.

That's just so wrong, IMO.

OH JEEZ..In my house...everyone...EXCEPT ME APPARENTLY, will put a fresh roll of TP on the WINDOW SILL next to the toilet...I guess I need to hold an advanced class in "Moving the roll of toilet paper to the proper place immediately, you CAN do it!"

-Blu-

Ha ha! I actually gave my husband a visual demonstration of how changing a toilet roll works - just to be sarcastic.

He still doesn't do it...

Ah well, I knew the job was dangerous when I took it.

does this include the use of "no worries"?

I got that a lot in Singapura. A Lot. Ya, it includes it.

My Singapura version:

No Worries? Ah - come on - I gotta worry about something, yes? Hey - you know what I worry about, the most, each day? Where the heck am I gonna find a curry laksa hawker as GOOD as the last one I went to. Do you know any curry laksa hawkers around here? No? Well, then - you should really worry, as I'm about to implode unless I can get me some curry laksa, and soonish !! Come on, lets ask yer friend here - curry laksa can e can ma ? :D

----

When I'm in liverpool, it's a different life, as well - rarely do I hear 'no worries' - I think it's a regional and age thing, the liverpudlians beat the ####### out of those other english folk that use that pansy phrase, don't let em come in except on weekends to shop at the high street. Instead, I had gotten back, "[[a double grunt]]".

I can handle double grunts, anywhere on the planet, not a peeve of mine, at all !

I HATE it when people post cryptic messages on their FaceBook pages! OMG...Just either come to the point and say what is going on, or don't say anything at all! Got one recently that said, "I can't believe what happened today."

OMFG..then you gotta go through all the back and forth messages to perhaps get even an inkling of what happend. JUST STOP IT! Lol.

Yep, what you wrote. I find it attention seeking and it drives me nuts.

- girls who think that guys should put the seat down. If he has to lift it up because YOU left it down, then you can put it DOWN if he left it up.

- people who write in text speak.. when writing correctly adds just one letter. I understand "u" if you're running out of text space, and I understand writing "impt" instead of important but when well-educated people I know write "dat" instead of "that" or "cum" instead of "come" (that last one really makes me cringe) I lose a little bit of respect for them.

- people who don't change the toilet roll, or who do, but only go so far as to get it down but don't remove the empty roll and put the new one on, or do put it on and put it upside down (yes I related to the ads about roll over or roll under. Over is the only way. Against the wall makes no sense) but I can switch it the right way... at least it's there!

- people who call me by a nickname when I just met them for the first time. Nicknames mean familiarity, I don't know who the hell you are...

Sure there's some other ones but those are some biggies.

something China Specific

have to carry around yer own tissue when you go outside. There is NONE in a public toilet.

when eating out, the resturant will include tissue paper, but charges for each person, is part of the final bill. No tissue / toilet paper in the wc, ever.

----

my FAV tissue pickup - a huge case of Mickey Mouse Tissue. Each time I'd have to use it (outside, not in the house) - always, I'd tell my wife - I'm off to Disneyland !

You do realise the terms "no problem" and "no worries" actually don't have anything to do with your worries or problems right? They're saying "it wasn't a problem for ME to help YOU" or "didn't worry me going out of my way to help you"... so your responses about "I gotta worry about something" don't make sense.. they're not telling YOU not to worry, or that YOU don't have a problem, they're saying THEY didn't have a problem with it and THEY aren't worried about it... It's not proper english, though sure

ya - I realized it - I even take it as a 'base of presumption' as well.

I do skip that part, each time, though (and it shows) .. Sorry ;)

Text speak online!!! Augh!!! I see the point of it in text messages because you really have to try to fit your message into roughly 160 characters (I think). But when posting in forums, when chatting or in emails? There's simply no point!

100% agree... one main reason I try to write proper english most of the time is because of how many people I know failing Uni classes because they're so used to typing in short form and text speak that they don't notice when writing their essays and exams etc. I did it once in a practice exam, I wrote b/c instead of because but luckily it was only a practice one!

Ooo I forgot my favourite one...

- people who write ECT instead of ETC... it's short for etcetera people!!

There's one of these pet peeve threads every month or so. I don't get it. My blood pressure would be sky high if I let things like this annoy me enough to need to post it as a pet peeve. None of this stuff matters.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

No-one said it matters but, like most threads, it helps to know that you're not the only one. It helps to discuss things. I'm happy your blood pressure is under control but some people really enjoy being able to vent, it's cathartic.
