Hi guys, do you know if they are picky with the passport photo? or what they actually will do with the petitioner's photograph?

I thought only the beneficiary needs a photo for his visa...

1) My good background photo I turned out looking like I'm on drugs. (if they aren't posting it on something I will see again, I don't mind sending this in)

2) The photograph I liked, my background may not be light enough *(if they are mounting it on something like a visa or passport I want to send this one)

Hopefully people who have their K1 completed would know :D

Thanks,

Dot

It's interesting that the passport photos you send are really only used in two places: the K-1 visa, and the AP document. They use biometrics photos whenever they have them available, in preference.

I think the passport photos are used, in addition to those two things, primarily as a security measure. By having everything in your immigration file associated with pictures of you taken at the time of filing, it becomes much more difficult for someone to steal your identity. They can fill out forms in your name and with your info, but it's much more difficult for them to look like enough like you-plus-several-months/years to be confused for you-from-previous-photos.

I only need 1 copy of mine and 1 for the beneficiary right?

His' will go on the visa, but I'm not getting one so I can have an ugly picture

Actually, his from the I-129F won't go on the visa either :) His visa picture will be the one he brings to the interview. At least, that's how Vancouver did it.

Regardless of the consulate, they'll use a photo the visa applicant carries to the interview. The petitioner will never see their photo again but it should meet the specifications for background to be accepted.

Since the instructions say to send a photo for both parties I am at a loss to explain why you would think only the beneficiary needed one. Any passport type photo will work, the instructions also include details of what the photo should be like. You can make your own. If you do not like your photo, make a new one. After you (petitioner) send it in, you will never see it again.

Thanks, I've already gotten a photo, I just didn't want to retake it :) I look ugly in the photo, but if I will never see it again it's okay I will send that one in

Use the photo for what?

Use that photo as the photo that gets printed on the visa that gets glued into your passport.

 I just got this image of some poor junior consulate worker stuck behind the scenes with a bottle of elmers and some pop-sickle sticks carefully gluing visas on passports....The mental image result looking like some horrible parody of a preschooler's construction paper art project... I think I may have been working too much this week. :D
