How so? I was speaking in general - the same kind of thing that happened in London or Madrid, could happen in any metropolitan area with mass transit. Take one of the rush hour NJ transit train services to NYC - those things are packed. Noone checks bags or backpacks before you get on, it just isn't feasible.

Much cheaper to blow up a crowded train or subway - and cause the same effect. The city closes for a day, business and commerce are disrupted. Story is all over the national news. That is the reality of terrorism - not someone importing suitcase nukes into the country.

In that vain, I agree....

Exactly. And much easier to do than a nuclear or biological attack.

you'd be surprised. anthrax isn't nicknamed "the poor man's nuke" for nothing.

It's bizarre that anyone would be against any proactive measures to prevent any attack.

The 'oh well sh-t happens' is definitely a trademark of a certain ideology, not be mentioned. Naturally, only to turn around when something does happen and then claim 'the war on terror has failed, so we should just legalize terror'.

Already learned the IRS had full access to all my credit card statements and banking transactions well before the APA. My only comment to them is why in the hell are they making me fill out all those forms, just send me the god-damned bill!

What really pissed me off, with that APA, couldn't even open a stinky little thousand dollar joint bank account with MY wife until she got her EDA. Like a thousand bucks is going to pay off a terrorists. Course when coming back to MY country, love it when somebody wants to peer up my butt. I certainly hope they don't change that. I also enjoy all the protect Homeland Security provided by more than doubling our police force, finally I feel safe a long as my tail lamps are working and I am driving 15 mph in a 25 mph zone.

Prior to WW II, we had virtually only one federal law enforcement agency, the FBI, after WWII, the CIA was formed, now we have a zillion federal agencies for law enforcement that can't even talk to each other. Was really brilliant to form yet another agency in an attempt that isn't working to get all these agencies to talk to each other. Did it ever occur to them just to go back to one agency? They were very effective prior and during WW II to capture Japanese and German spies. But with more agencies, went to hell with the Soviets after WW II letting them steal our bomb.

Perhaps why enjoy watching NCIS so much, really points out how screwed up this country has become. But as usual and even with all that BS on WPR, nothing is done about it.

It's bizarre that someone would jump on board with any and everything that infringes on individual liberty - from the Patriot Act, to CCTV on every street, to allowing schools to spy on your kids via webcams.

that is a big problem. with more than one agency, there's internal bickering, turf and budget wars as people are more concerned about keeping information in house for fear another agency will capitalize on it.

*sigh*

I could rip this thread a new one, but I won't.

I'll just quote this:

I think if everyone was being honest with him/herself...each of us would admit that politics is like a WWF match....sure, they fight and chide each other...but at the end of all the blamestorming, they're prolly all friends and laughing with each other behind the scenes. It's all a big fkin game, and they hope we have selective memory to the past.

While my politics do lean conservative/Republican...that does not mean I am blind to what goes on. And people who are die hard partisan are the ones I truly feel sorry for.

Jesse Ventura has pointed this out numerous times, especially when he was Governor of Minnesota. It was all bickering for "tv" but at the end of the day, they were all relaxing and having a beer together.
